Sports Huddle Summary will be here shortly, trying to decipher my handwriting as we speak...

'Sorry. Had to run errands. Here it is...

Jerry Kill on standouts of scrimmage: Demry Croft is a surprise on how well he is playing. Been consistent throughout camp. Shannon Brooks - unbelievable day, a special back, haven't seen many did what he's done (in scrimmage). Rashad Still - great day for a freshman, went up & caught a pass for TD over someone, is a vertical thread. Jaylen Waters a Fr did some good things. Kiante Hardin is going to play in some shape or form, has done a great job.

Long snapper is critical. Need Payton Jordahl to come through. Snapped ball 134 times in the heat.

Kill was very please with how kids handled the heat and adversity yesterday. Very pleaed with ovrall efforts.

Shannon Brooks was offensive player of the year in GA. He lives up in the mountains of GA. Credits Coach Anderson. He's got a lot of good relationships with coaches in GA. People know him & people fell in love with MN. Brooks is a strong hard nosed back, got great vision, and he's physical. He'll play as a freshman.

Leidner had a great day. Didn't turn the ball over. Threw the ball away when he had to. Made some great reads. Had a good solid day.

Demry Croft looked good. He hasn't had a lot of reps with 1s & 2s. Getting it done with the 3s. Tremendous composure, threw one down the pike for a TD. Ran a TD in on an option play. Also, on a zone read play. Gives ball out quick. Compares him to Teddy Bridgewater.

Julian Huff a true freshman will not redshirt. Will come off the edge in nickel & dime packages. Has great explosion, very physical, great vision.

Ben Lauer had knee surgery last week to clean some stuff out. Will be back to practice this week.

Kill feels good about seven guys in OL. Need for three guys to step up and get going. Always tough to play a true freshman in OL. Tyler Moore in that mix, but he came in a semester early. That helped him. Moore & Quinn Oseland getting some reps with 2s. Need for a few guys to step up. Brian Bobek done some work in summer & has done a really good job at center. Put Josh Campion back at tackle because of Jonah Pirsig with all the struggle with injuries. Moved Conner Mayes from Center to Guard. Conner & Tyler is a good switch. Tyler is a natural center. Conner is more of a guard.

Kill confident Bobek get another year of eligibility.

Jeff Jones is doing good. He is still learning. Didn't get a chance to do a whole lot missing his freshman year and this Spring. Has migraine headaches didn't practice all the time. No question he has a great future, doing lots of learning, has done great things in camp.

Melvin Holland had a great day.

Dave said NFL camps have lots of praises about last year's players - Cedric Thompson, David Cobb, and Damien Wilson. Kill thinks Cobb will be a starter, heard they might move him to first team or alternate between two backs. Damien is penciled in as a starter in Dallas. Isaac Fruechte has done a good job. Derrick Wells played and did a nice job. Makes Gopher program look good.

Kill has good relations with Beth Goetz. He knew about her while he was at SIU. Dan Obrien & Beth helped him with his contract.

The athletic program is in great shape in spite of what happened. Will move forward. Puts trust in President Kaler. Will get building done and move on.

Other surprise: Emmit Carpenter did a nice job kicking in scrimmage. Has big leg like Santoso. Most improved player in secondary is Charley Rogers.

Here's what I remember, with no notes) - reaction to scrimmage: liked contributions from a lot of younger players, including Croft, Brooks, Huff, Still, Holland, Rogers, Hardin, Oseland, Tyler Moore to remember a few.Huff will be used as edge rusher.

Said Leidner was fine. Said offense has more overall speed, chances for more big plays. Went back to Croft again- impressed with his poise, quick learner, hasn't had chance to play with 1's or 2's, so making things happen with 3's.

On OL: said Lauer would be back soon - some concern about Prisig(might not have heard that correctly). Said confident in top 7 OL, but need others to step up for depth. Good words for Connor Mayes and Tyler Moore.

Mentioned Jordal at LS, and mentioned a FR K (didn't catch name)

Asked about AD situation, said the U will be fine going forward. Confidence in Beth Goetz and Dan O'Brian to keep things on track. (fund-raising did not come up as I recall).

That's what I can remember. (disclaimer - I was working out at the time, so I might have missed something while doing situps - it's hard to count and listen at the same time.........)

I heard that too ... do you think he meant to say Lauer, or did he mean he would've moved Pirsig to LT but Pirsig has some injuries too?

Suspected this anyway, but this is telling. Kill is at the point where he will answer to the President, not any new AD.

We're still a ways away in coaching parlance. You don't talk opponents until next week. Don't make it too huge this early.
 

Regarding Shannon Brooks:

His bio on Gopher Sports lists his bday as August 19 1994. That can't be right? He would be 21 this fall?
 

Thanks for the recap! Not surprised to hear Brooks will play after how well he played yesterday. Sounds like Huff and Hardin are locks as well.
 



Thanks for the recap. Nice to hear they are confident that Bobek will get another year. Another veteran option on the offensive line next year would be nice with Campion and Christianson graduating.

Must be a typo on Brooks. He's got a picture of his Nike Sparq score from last year on his Twitter that says he was 17 at the time.
 

Kill's comments about Shannon Brooks are almost over the top. Running back is a position where we seem very well set. To mention a true freshman as one who will definitely play seems pretty surprising. This kid must be special.
