Drake transfer Liam Robbins commits to the Gophers

The Gophers received a commitment from Drake transfer Liam Robbins, per Evan Daniels. The 7-foot big man averaged 14.1 points and 7.1 rebounds for the Bulldogs last season. Robbins announced he was transferring on Saturday and chose Minnesota less than one day later.

Head coach Richard Pitino has been exploring the transfer portal to bolster his frontcourt. With center Daniel Oturu departing for the NBA, Robbins is set to play a big role in 2020 if he’s granted immediate eligibility. Last season, he shot 49.9 percent and became a key player for Drake. On the defensive end, he finished fifth in the nation with 2.9 blocks per game.

Robbins is the nephew of Minnesota associate head coach Ed Conroy. The Gophers’ new transfer will also team up with his cousin, Hunt Conroy, who is on the team’s roster.

He may need to sit out one season due to transfer rules, but the NCAA is set to review its policy to potentially allow immediate transfers.
