Sconnie fans are the worst.

Your N. Dak picture is of hockey fans. If we are talking hockey then North Dakota takes the cake.

Personally, I guess I dislike the NDSU fanbase the most just because they're the most arrogant. Wisconsin fans at least usually seem to be a little bit more intelligent/informed (not to say I don't dislike them).

I don't recognize North Dakota anything. Wisc. wins in a landslide.

Intelligent and sconnie don't belong in the same sentence.

All 4 fanbase a are so irrational but then become geniuses when they make up half of the Viking fan populace the following day.

Wisconsin without a doubt. It is WI or IA for 95% of U of M Gopher fans. Why? Because hockey is a niche sport, even at the U of M and in Minnesota. Most of the populous of the country, including MN, follows football, baseball and basketball. With hockey a distant 4th or 5th. I grew up playing hockey and am willing to admit this as a truth about hockey's place in the pecking order of public sporting interest.

P.S. Why in the world are the ndsu water buffaloes even on this list? You have to care about and be a traditional rival with someone before you can hate them. So they had a cute little run and got lucky a couple times by running into a very rough patch (if not the roughest patch) and massive transition in Gopher football history. Whoopie....that means they are a rival of ours now? I honestly (and would guess it is the same for the VAST majority of Gopher fans) don't give two sh!ts about ndsu. They mean absolutely nothing.

When it comes to hockey fans, North Dakota is the worst. Hands down. No questions asked. However, they don't bother me in football or basketball at all, so overall, I'd give it to Wisconsin.

NDSU is a different kind of obnoxious. Comparing Wisconsin fans to NDSU fans is like a high school student comparing how much he hates his high school nemesis who made out with his girlfriend and keyed his car to the annoying neighbor kid who colored in your chemistry text book while your parents were babysitting him.

The correct answer to Most Hated _____________ is always Wisconsin.

As to what about them makes them the worst, it's the fact that they cheer for Wisconsin.

I don't care for anyone on the list. I sit right in front of the visiting team's cheer squad and mascot, so there are often lots of opposing fans around us. Oddly enough, in the 5 seasons I have sat there, the worst fanbase by a ways has been USC. Arrogant, lippy and confrontational. Kind of glad beer wasn't served in the stadium that day.

Nicely said Dpo.

The worst experience I've had with fans was a hockey game against the Whioux. Easily the fanbase with the highest majority of "jerks" to put it nicely.

If we are talking over the entire athletic department, there is little question Wisky fans take the cake with no fanbase even coming close.

I also think the Sioux are being diminished a little bit from our move to the Big Ten in hockey since we won't play them as often and the hate will temper over the next several years.

I don't hate fan bases because in a sense we're all the same and just wear different colors. I know some on this board like to think that Iowa fans are all fat or UW fans are all drunks but if you really look at it objectively the demographics and makeup of the fanbases are pretty similar. I dislike losing to UW and Iowa the most, however.

This is boring, and makes too much sense. Where's the irrational hate?

Only being slightly irrational allows you to not take marooned's measured position. And I'm fine with that. With that said, burn everything Wisconsin Badger related down to the ground. Worst fan base ever. Only the fans that are 35 and older are even worth conversing with because they at least acknowledge their pathetic pre-Alvarez existence.

I don't recall Gopher fans, wearing any colors, being ejected from a Metrodome restroom for committing adultery in a public place.

Thanks for your input Mr. Maturi.

Would replace ndsu with Michigan. Michigan fans have been by far the most arrogant I've encountered aside from wi and ia. Compared to all the other powers like neb, psu, OSU, etc, Michigan is a class of doosh by itself. Want to beat them almost more than any other. Very close with wisco, and we've beaten Iowa enough lately so I want Michigan.

We've had our fair share of classless moments (from Wikipedia): In a 1972 college basketball game, Ohio State University were leading the University of Minnesota 50–44 with 36 seconds left to play in the game. Ohio State's Luke Witte was fouled hard going to the basket by Minnesota’s Corky Taylor, who punched the dazed Witte in the face and kneed him in the groin. Gopher reserve Ron Behagen then stomped on Witte's neck and head. Witte was not the only victim of violence, as a larger brawl broke out, with two other Gophers, Jim Brewer and future Baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, attacking other Ohio State players. Witte was taken off the court on a stretcher and booed by Minnesota fans. He was the most seriously injured among three Buckeyes players taken to hospitals

Just a thought, but maybe the question should have been directed toward fans who actually sit in the seats on campus with the opposing fan bases, not those that watch the games from home without all the "pleasant" interactions.

We're the same.

After spitting in the face of point guard Kent Nix, Ohio State's Luke Witte was fouled hard going to the basket by Minnesota’s Corky Taylor, who punched the dazed Witte in the face and kneed him in the groin. Gopher reserve Ron Behagen then stomped on Witte's neck and head. Horrible situation, but there, fixed the part that is usually left out. By the way, Witte who went on to be an ordained minister and Behagen became quite close friends, and Witte has discussed both his part in starting the brawl and tOSU Coach's part in helping to create the atmosphere for the trouble.

No "winners" in that situation, but it's interesting to see how most of the Media has spun things.
