per CBS:

Four-star quarterback, and Michigan State commit Jayru Campbell allegedly slammed a security guard to the ground at Detroit's Cass Tech High School on Wednesday.

According to a report from the NBC affiliate in Detroit, Campbell was in police custody on Wednesday evening, and a spokeswoman for Detroit Public Schools said that Campbell will be disciplined internally according to the student code of conduct. That same spokeswoman said that, had the incident happened outside the school, Campbell could have been charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

Michigan State released a statement on Wednesday that read "NCAA rules prohibit institutions from commenting on specific prospects until a National Letter of Intent has been signed." As of Thursday, Michigan State has not pulled its scholarship offer to Campbell.

Probably has anxiety disorder. May not be able to fly.

The kid who did this is a punk.

BTW, I'm guessing the security guard is not a licensed police officer. I don't care what anyone says, police officers are a much better option. There is a reason liquor stores and other places that at are high risk for violent crimes use licensed police officers.

I heard a rumor St. Paul Public Schools is looking to replace St. Paul police officers with private security which is a dumb cost savings move that will cost more in the end. The superintendent at SPPS should be run out of town if she does in fact replace St. Paul PD.

I hope the security guy is okay. Something tells me the guard is not making enough money to have deal with this kind of bs.

Looks like he came up from behind too. That leads one to assume 1) there are no mitigating circumstances 2) premeditation. Either way, that video leads me to thinking MSU should pull that kid's scholarship offer.

Oops. I'd be surprised if Dantoni honored his offer after this. But since he is just a junior, maybe see if he can get his act together?

Shocked that he can't be charged with assault just because it happened inside the school. That had to damage something, I would be outraged.

** Looked up some additional articles and it sounds like he has indeed been charged.

From the link above, also, mention of a past incident:

"..Campbell already was suspended for the first game of next season after punching an opposing player in the handshake line following the state semifinal loss..."

Sounds like a great kid.

Holy Magnum TA belly-to-belly suplex! I halfway expected Mean Gene Okerlund to run down the hallway microphone in hand.

Throw him in a cage with an angry Rashede Hageman! That'll set him straight. ;)

I have to admit that made me laugh. But the video shocked me I was expecting something different. MSU should pull the offer. Wow

We could use some depth at QB but I don't think there's any way Limegrover flips him.

Probably felt disrespected by Michael Crabtree. Maybe he should be forced to attend the Richard Sherman School of Class & Etiquette.

You would? Why? Dantoni is a guy who has allowed charged felons to play for him more than once. I'm with you in that I would guess Dantonio will back away, but would certainly not be surprised if the kid ended up in Green and White.

MSU the land of the alleged. More unconvicted felons than kids that go to class.

This comment is completely unsubstantiated so please dont jump down my throat, I'm simply referencing how many goons they have on the BBALL team at the moment.

What he did constitutes a 3rd degree felony in Florida

After SPPS moved every student with emotional disorders back into the mainstream classrooms this year, what could go wrong switching from police officers to private security guards?

MSU better pull their scholarship. And hopefully no other big names pick him up. That would be what he deserves.

CBS: Michigan State commit gets 60 days in jail for slamming security guard

According to the Detroit Free Press, the sentence will extend into Campbell's senior season at Detroit Cass Tech.

The 17-year-old must turn himself in July 28, which gives him time to complete summer school, then he will begin serving his time in the Wayne County Jail. Campbell has been credited for three days already spent in custody, said Wayne County Circuit Judge Timothy Kenny, who presides over the criminal division.

“Mr. Campbell's regrettable lack of self-control and his violent response to legitimate school authority has to be sanctioned,” Kenny said.

Campbell had been charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm, a felony, and aggravated assault, a misdemeanor, after he slammed a 23-year-old security officer to the ground on Jan. 22 inside Cass Tech. Campbell pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor in a plea deal struck earlier this month, and the felony charge was dismissed.

Actually Don, I read somewhere that isn't really that bad - it all depends on who started it and if you've been drinking.
