Visits and/or offers from Wisc, Neb, Oklahoma ...

the itch to leave Mom & Dad and the Twin Cities where you grew up, is strong.

If he decides to stay home from the git go, great. I won't get my hopes up.

My thing is more like this: let them leave and see if the grass is greener. But the door is open to transfer back home if/when it doesn't work out. :)

Yep - tons of kids want to just get away from home for college, regardless of college athletics. There are many that view it as "settling" to go to college near home.

It’s open for some, but others like Terry Lockett find that isn’t always going to be the case. I don’t think we even offered Townley when he had entered. No one can safely assume we will have an open door the second time around.

Could be a disadvantage of the school being in a large metro area. The majority of in state guys will be very close to the university. Where in say Iowa if the recruit lives in Des Moines you can stay home by going to Iowa but it's still almost 2 hours away so you're still kinda getting away from home too at the same time.

The whole premise this thread was based on was stupid from the begining. Acting like a local guy tweeting about an offer from Wisconsin or even visiting there as som sort of slight to PJ and the Gophers makes zero sense.

We have a really solid in-state class forming and hopefully Gilmore decides to be part of it....but it is what it is if he decides to go somewhere else. Some kids just want to get away from home.

I'd be concerned if no in-state kids wanted to be here. If one or 2 of the top 10 doesnt that seems pretty normal.

Is Emerson Mandell being heavily recruited by the Gophers?

Agree. The kid is the #1 kid in the state and he is entitled to find the best situation for himself. He isn't at the point of committing yet, so he's still vetting out the schools. Until he commits, the Gophers are likely still in the equation.

No one has even considered that this is an inside spy job? Obviously he's committing to the U! He's showing leadership as the #1 in the class and getting intel on how Fickell runs his program.

What's this "longest winning streak intact" thing? Gophers have a longer active winning streak due to slapping Wisconsin around for a second straight year. They do have the active Axe losing streak. Is that what you meant?

Guessing he was referring to consecutive years above .500 maybe? Looks like they haven't finished below .500 since 2001. But who knows. The whole post was a mess and made no sense so why would the statistics in it make sense?

Depends on your definition of recent. We have been as good or better than Wisconsin over the past few seasons. Prior to that of course they had a huge advantage.

But regardless, would love to see a clean sweep of the local guys every year but that isn't realistic to truly expect that to happen. The important part is we get the majority of the local guys we want. Would appear we are going to accomplish that in this current recruiting cycle, even if a few end up going elsewhere.

New players will be entering the unknown. Will he be another Frost there?

Well, 21 winning seasons in a row is pretty impressive! We have have 10 (ten) losing seasons in the same time period.
Chances probably aren't good they only win 5 games this year but all we can do is get our streak to 3 and work on catching em.

Unfortunately, that is true. A few years back, my niece wanted to go to school at the U of Arizona...because Arizona, I guess. My sister said she could as long as she pays her own way, including travel to and from - wether it was by plane or car.
Kids need to hear that more often. My niece changed her mind and went to Normandale Community College.

Nah. I think the record over the last few seasons is far, far more relatable to high school kids. The rest is ancient history to them. How many of them know who Barry Alvarez is? In their eyes, Kirk Frentz looks like their Grandpa. I think Fleck relates really well to the young players.

We can wallow in the past all we want, but kids never do.

Last I checked, “Madison” fired their coach during the season because their football program is shit. I hope you enjoyed the beat down the last 2 seasons. I still see Lemeke running by your entire peewee defense. Too bad Jake Ratzlaff or Kaden Johnson couldn’t tackle him.

You’re here in May Dan Barreiro congratulating a team that we’ve passed up that was so bad they fired their coach after a 30 point beat down at home to Illinois. Congratulations on your wonderful life.

Wyatt is a great kid. I went to HS with his dad and my son goes to high school with Wyatt. I’ve know him since he was little. Whatever decision he makes it’ll be his decision to make. He’s got a good family and is a really well rounded young man.

Kids that want to leave the State if their high school ratings present an opportunity will leave. If they want to go to Stanford or Alabama, etc. more power to them.

The ones that want to be Gophers will jump at an opportunity to do so.

You hope that some of them like Quinn Carroll return to become Gophers.
