If Trestman gets the job he'll have alot of proving to do with a hostile fan base upset at the lack of a known quantity.
I think he'd be fine as a coach, I'd imagine he's going to need some assistants with current recruiting ties. His staff at Montreal includes a few names of interest:Andy Bischoff, Tim Tibesar, Tim Burke, Scott Milanovich, none that fit the profile of a recruiter. None that have really had success in college.
Bottom line: Smart guy, probably can coach x's and o's, would struggle to recruit barring a slam dunk coordinator hire, would struggle to excite fanbase. He'd need to win alot early to overcome some of this stuff.

Sidenote: My dad was friends with him in college, speaks very highly of his character and smarts, said he was the only athlete he knew that did his own homework:D
 

I sent Maturi an e-mail with a link to this poll to show him what the fans thought of Trestman and I got this response-

"Appreciate the input. As much as I respect the fans we won’t vote on who the next coach will be. If he wins – great choice. If not, awful one."

Maybe Trestman isn't a bad coach but he just has too many question marks for me to support him.
 

Like it or hate it, Trestman would be a BIG gamble.

Maturi's tried the gambling thing. He got Brewster and lost.

My guess is that the next pick will be as safe as possible (recognized name with a college HC background).

If Maturi doubles down on another unknown quantity like Trestman (unknown w/ respects to college HC, recruiting, etc.), I seriously question not just his competence, but his intelligence.
 


If this was an election, I think we would be able to call it.
 



When you have a potential coach who inspires so little faith, you had better have some very strong reasons for making the hire. I won't say that Trestman couldn't be the right coach, but I have seen nothing that gives me any reason to think that he is "the guy", nothing to move him up over the other candidates.
 

So, anyway, other than lack of college experience, why are people so against Trestman? I tried doing some looking and while he's not ideal, he's definitely no Brewster.
