Well of the 6 people who voted that they would be happy if Trestman were hired, I would be very curious to hear their reasoning behind that. Anyone?

I'm guessing 4 Iowa or Wisky trolls, 1 real Trestman fan and Trestman himself.

The media goofs would fawn over him so a big

NO. Just say no to Trestman, just like Bohl we do not want them as the next Gopher coach.

It's hard to know where the 'last-straw' is when you've supported a team that's never won anything meaningful in your entire life. In fact it's hard to believe there is a 'last-straw.' But the hiring of Marc Trestman as football coach after what we've just been through would probably do it for me. If this happens, Gopher football will no longer be anything more then a casual interest to me. I see no way that I could get invested in a program that would make a move like this at this time in it's history. Yes, I think trying to sell me a team with Marc Freaking Trestman as Coach and Dithering Joel Maturi as his boss is beyond what a program can ask of a fan, and I would no longer get worked up about it.

It would be like moving the team without all the moving.

And I don't get why the media is pushing this guy? I cannot understand it for the life of me. Because he was a player? Was he ever even the starting QB? He's been out of the state for decades and has virtually no college experience. How did this even get started? One powerful booster has a thing for him?

Good analgy. I'd feel the same way about the Vikings if they moved to LA. I might still watch them play, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do it, or get terribly caught up in anymore.

Real question: (I am not a religiously close follower of all the gopher blogs and fan columns, except FBT, and of course, or beloved 'hole.)

Does anyone have a sense of whether GI or any other gopher forum actually prefers Trestman? If enough of the blogs and forums are unanimous in disapproval of the Trestman idea, it should find its way to Maturi's ears, right?

If Trestman is the guy, I have no reason to believe there is good in the world.

+1

I'd start cutting myself, just to see if I still felt anything.

I'd move to a cave at the top of Mount Pinatubo if Trestman were hired, and I'm super-serious about that.

From a coaching and pure football perspective he would be as good as anyone. I am not sure of his recruiting ability outside of Minnesota. I would think he would have not problem establishing a relationship with the High School coaches in Minnesota. I just don't know how he would do outside the state.

Hiring Trestman would make this season a joy in comparison. Better to keep Brew another season and let go of Cosgrove. Would question getting season tickets-are we serious about being a Big Ten program?

they hire Trestman, i'm done completly, Lincoln is just as close to me and they have a university that gives a sh!t about their football program.

I could drink with you two.

We could pour some of the booze onto MBAGuy's cuts. Then we'd be helping all of our wounds.

It's pretty cool actually.

To be honest it's like a veil has been lifted around here lately. It's been a lot more pleasant to hang out here.

Soooo true!

Last guy I want. I'll take every other name that has been mentioned with maybe a few exceptions..

I agree. I'd take Mike Grant or Nielson over Trestman. While they would probably be disasters, there's at least an element of unknown. With Trestman, there's enough history there to see it coming a mile away. I'd rather give Jeff Horton a 10-year contract right now.

If (and I hope not) Trestman is hired would he be in a difficult position of having to explain to recruits why he transferred away from the U as a player? I don't know if he would or wouldn't but I hope we never have to find out.

The irony is that if it is the case that the big boosters are behind Trestman, and Maturi just rubber-stamps it, then those who didn't want Maturi to make the decision will have gotten what they wanted. The boosters will have made the decision, and we might all be complaining that Maturi should have made the decision. I suspect that the boosters who support Trestman make be blowing smoke, trying to create the impression that it will be Trestman. Creating a false impression can make it an actuality if people aren't paying attention.
