Not with the position we are in now, being ahead of the game, supposedly flush with money, and a new stadium.

Doesn't get me excited

Admittedly, I know little about Trestman and his deeds in the CFL. But, his name has been bantered when Brewster was hired, and prior to that, he was mentioned when Mason got the job.
So, he's been named in the past and didn't get the job. In fact, Brewster was hired ahead of him.
What's different this time around? Did Maturi find out that "he's one of us?" But, who knows? He could be a heck of a coach that just hasn't got the chance.

It makes me ill, too. Just the thought makes me sick. It would be an absolutely pathetic decision by Maturi. In fact it might have to be thought of as his worst, which is really saying something when you look at his track record.

Let me put it another way. If Brewster would not have been fired and would be coming back next year, I'd keep my tickets and maybe add a couple. If Trestman is hired, I'm going to have to think long and hard about it.

I would jump up and down and shoot sparks out of my ass in rage.

I know little about Trestman, why is everyone so down on him?

If he's named the coach, I will give him a chance. I'm wary of the angle being overplayed about the next coach needing to have U connections, and be someone who would never leave. We had that with Salem. But I will be cautiously optimistic if he is hired.

I will only speak for myself. I would not be very happy because there is/are much more proven college coaches who are available. To me, Trestman's resume is very underwhelming, and I don't think he would even be a candidate at any other school, as evidensed by the fact his first HC experience came 25 years into a career in the CFL.

Trestman Sucks!

Hire a legitimate big name or at least "up and coming" college coach!

That vote would be a lot closer. I've never seen gopherhole in such agreement on an issue. Hell, Brew had more support than Trestman.
It's pretty cool actually.

To be honest it's like a veil has been lifted around here lately. It's been a lot more pleasant to hang out here.

I'm not even remotely joking when I say I would favor [making Brewster "Gophers Coach for Life" and paying him $3 mil/yr] over [hiring Marc Trestman at anything higher than offensive coordinator].

I was thinking about this today and sort of came to this conclusion as well. If the program goes with Trestman it signals to me that they never intend to be a factor in college football and I give serious thought about my continued financial committment.

College Football Talk listed Trestman as a fan favorite. WTF!

recruiting

I don't believe there is any reason to believe he would be able to recruit at all. He's basically a long-time pro coordinator. He's near the bottom of the list for me.

If by "be happy" you mean "go on a murderous rampage", then yes, I would be very happy.

Its scary that Trestman is the media/alum favorite.

Usually that means he is the front runner early. Just like with Todd Richards and the Wild. The Jury is still out, but I wasn't a big fan of his, and there were a lot of good candidates I felt more comfortable with.

Steak sauce = local ties
Steak = coach who meets our needs
Ice Cream = coach who doesn't meet our needs

Focusing on local ties is like focusing on the steak sauce, without giving a thought about what it is being put on. If you're putting steak sauce on steak, fine. But if it is on ice cream, you probably don't want to do that. Get a coach who meets our needs, local ties are a nice bonus, but secondary.

Trestman does nothing for me. Talk about sucking the wind out of the excitement of a prospective "killer hire". Hopefully there isn't a big bucks booster that is driving this.
