#4 Gophers take on UMD in the last series of the season. And then WCHA tournament action is next.

The game is free to listen to radio streaming. Go to the team schedule page.

After 1 period Gophers have 10 shots on goal. UMD has 5. An errant pass in the Gophers zone exposed Vetter and UMD scored. 0-1.

UMD has allowed the 3rd fewest goals in WCHA games. UMD always brings a strong goaltending defense combo.

Gophers need to pick it up.

Abbey Murphy scores her 30th goal of the season to tie the game.

Game has gone to overtime.

Meanwhile in the WCHA, Wisconsin leads Ohio State. St Thomas beat Minnesota State.

Gophers win the shootout in OT!

Ella Huber scored in the shoot out. Skylar Vetter didn't allow a goal.

Abbey Murphy was one of the official stars of the game. She came out on the ice in her socks. Then she ran over to some kids at the glass.

Elsewhere, now Ohio State is leading Wisconsin.

Gophers women's hockey skates to tie with Minnesota Duluth

The Gophers won a shootout to earn an extra point in the WCHA standings.

The fourth-ranked Gophers women's hockey team and eighth-ranked Minnesota Duluth skated to a 1-1 tie on Friday night at Ridder Arena.

After a scoreless overtime, the Gophers won the shootout to earn an extra point in the WCHA standings. Ella Huber started the shootout by scoring, and it was the only goal among the six skaters.

The Bulldogs (18-11-4, 15-10-2 WCHA) took a 1-0 lead in the first period on an unassisted goal by Mary Kate O'Brien.

The Gophers (24-7-2, 18-7-2) tied the score midway through the second period on a power-play goal by Abbey Murphy.

Skylar Vetter of the Gophers and Hailey MacLeod of the Bulldogs each had 26 saves..

Ohio State is the big news of the season. The OSU beat Wisconsin last night for the 3rd time this season. They play again tonight at 8 PM.

Minnesota and UMD play again today at 2 pm.

Friday's game was excellent. Two piping hot goalies. Outstanding effort by both teams. Playing UMD is like playing a tournament game. Good preparation for the tournaments. I hope the Gophers can lift their games a notch for the tournaments. Go Gophers.

I think in tournaments Gophers can beat anyone, even Wisconsin. The Eastern teams usually blow up at the Frozen Four. Except tOSU is in the way of everyone.

Gophers special teams have been great this season. Gophers are #1 in the NCAA in power play scoring percentage. Gophers are #6 in the nation in penalty kill percentage.

Madison Kaiser just scored on the power play. Gophers 1-0.

Passing that's occasionally off could cost the Gophers. And they need more of those attack swarms to actually score. They're looking like a team that wins close wins into the post-season.

#4 Gophers are playing good defense style. 1-2 goals may be cutting it close.

Current score is 1-0 mid-2nd period against #8 UMD, a strong goaltending-defense-combo team.

Peyton Hemp scores! Gophers lead 2-0

Freshman Ava Lindsay with her second assist of the game. She's up to 23 points this season, a Freshman of the Year candidate season.

Madison Kaiser also an assist with a nice screening action.

Some extracurricular activities send both teams to the box, Bouveng for Minnesota.

Minnesota winning 2-1.

Freshman Emma Kreisz's shot mechanics are sweet. She just scored on the powerplay. Gophers winning 3-1.

UMD with an extra attacker goal, 3-2 Gophers winning.

Time for an empty net goal to put this away with 1 minute left.

Abbey Murphy breaks loose for the open net score. She SLAMS a slapshot into the net!

Gophers 4-2!

Then the UMD attacker Van Wieren roughs-up Murphy, getting sent to the penalty box.

Off the faceoff a brawl breaks out.

Stunner! Bottom-feeder St Thomas sweeps Minnesota State, a better team. That gives St Thomas some late season P.R. to try and build that program up, something they've been working hard to do.

We're now into the post season.

Tickets at:

Minnesota will host Minnesota State at Ridder Arena starting next Friday (evening I believe). Minnesota State is a decent team despite the upset losses to St Thomas.

Out east, post-season action is underway.

UMD may miss the NCAA tournament after winless against Minnesota this weekend.

Again, tonight is the game between Ohio State and Wisconsin. The outcome will change nothing, but everyone is looking to see if anyone can beat Ohio State. If Wisconsin can't do it...

Again, tonight is the game between Ohio State and Wisconsin. The outcome will change nothing, but everyone is looking to see if anyone can beat Ohio State. If Wisconsin can't do it...

That game is on the Big Ten Network. It may be worth checking out.

After the first period, Ohio State has outshot Wisconsin 17-4. tOSU leads 2-0. Ohio State is on another level. It would be a colossal upset for them to lose down the postseason stretch.

Gopher Olympians.

Current Gophers Josefin Bouveng, Nelli Laitien, and Abbey Murphy played in the Olympics.

Plus, many more played with Team USA and other national teams in other non-Olympic medal events.

2014 Sochi Olympians - Gigi Marvin, Megan Bozek, Amanda Kessel, Anne Schleper, Lee Stecklein

Wow, what an incredible scoring play by the Badgers. Edwards to Eden with a quick, clever back pass to Curl and then to O'Brian. Wisconsin ties the game against tOSU.

Edit: Now Edwards scored, Badgers take the lead! Is Ohio State beatable?

The Ohio State coach is chewing out her team.

Congratulations to incoming Gopher Ayla Puppe on being named Minnesota's Ms. Hockey! 🏆

Her 111 points (61g-50a) in 30 games was most in the state!

Coach Frost on Puppe: "Ayla is coached by former Gopher Paige Haley. Ayla is a strong skater that uses her speed and size to her advantage. She drives the net hard and is very tough to play against. Ayla is a natural goal scorer and knows how to fill the net."

Ms Hockey, future Gopher, Ayla Puppe getting attention at the PWHL game, Minnesota vs Boston.
