Wisky Fans calling it like they see it.....

You can have a depleted roster from injuries and you can have a depleted roster from low morale... right now Whiskey suffers from both.
Crazy to think of the shape that team is in right now in both those departments and then to look at their remaining schedule to realize it is only going to get way way worse....

They are a 34.5 point underdog on the road against Oregon this weekend.....that is insane. It is very likely they will be riding a 9 game losing streak when they show up here in the final game of the regular season.

Wisconsin had a nice run but this really illustrates how fragile sustained success is for any program outside of OSU, Michigan, and PSU. Which also illustrates why the idea of firing Fleck would be a huge gamble.

I think it also illustrates that programs need to know who they are and stick with that even after a coaching change. I'm sure many Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, & Nebraska fans would love to be like Oregon with their high octane offense.

But from a recruiting standpoint and climate standpoint it isn't realistic. Those teams need to built on the LoS and be physical and try to find some overlooked skill guys that are willing to work within their system.

Honestly only Ohio State has been successful with a high octane offense in the midwest and even they are trending to be a more physical team after Michigan pummeling them on the LoS the last few years.

Nebraska and Wisconsin made big mistakes trying to move away from what made them good to have more exciting offenses. And it backfired. I will say this regarding Nebraska, they lost a lot on the OL and DL from last year and that is killing them this year.

Stay all in. Give him many more years!

IOW:
It wasn’t the hire that I made after I fired all of our accomplished coaches and destroyed the program’s culture. It’s that our players are awful. We got them cheap, and we’re going to be replacing them soon with players who want more money. We should return to winning in a few years. In the meantime, I’m gonna need you to pay more - and ignore my bad decisions - so that we can get rid of the awful players we have on our team right now.”

New players might be less money than Fickell's buyout, plus if you fire him you have to get new players anyway. How do people rate the job there right now? Obviously PSU is the biggest job available, but Florida, Oklahoma State, and Virginia Tech are all open and Florida State may yet open up. Clemson isn't out of the realm of possibility either. It might be wise to sit out this year's HC hiring cycle.

Sparty may be open if no bowl game in 2025.

With the way coaches get fired these days every hiring cycle is likely to have big jobs in it.

My gut says the AD gets fired before Fickell. Fire the AD, Fickell gets one last ditch year to fix things...and if not gets sent packing after next year. But those are just wild guesses without really digging too deeply into the situation. I just know Fickell has a big buyout and Sconnie might be less inclined then PSU was to pay a coach not to work.

Heck yeah....keep Fickell in charge as long as humanly possible.
I’m sure Madisonians are pleased.

Kind of have to fire Chris now. That is more likely to bring down a firestorm of contempt and ridicule than anything else. Fresh start.

From a Gopher standpoint I’d say keep the guy, just doing a little OTJ training. We’ve all been there. He’s doing a heck of a job.
