Regardless of what happens with the game on Saturday, the Badger run is coming to an end. Alvarez caught lightning in the bottle, which fueled a good run. But mediocrity will become commonplace in Madtown over the next 15 years. Their recruiting classes are uninspiring. Their coach is likewise. "Jump Around" has been a gimmick that's wearing off.

This is not to say that Minnesota will be vying for the national championship any time relatively soon, but if the two programs were stock, which one would you buy?

Assuming GH is running the exchange: long UM, short UW...give GH discretion to suspend UW trading at any time. All transactions cleared at the Bank!

why are the recruiting classes uninspiring? Because the recruiting junkies of Scout and Rivals.com say so? Your classes are just amazing right? Your program has won 5 games in the last two years you really have no right to talk about any program "waning."

Math major at Madison?

7+1=5 according to a Becky fan!! Thank you higher education in WI!!

Wanning is the process of something shrinking or decreasing.
1 win then 7 wins in this coaches era at UM.
12 wins to 9 wins to 7 wins. about a 2 game decrease per year.
1+7=5? Pathetic.

nice second post pede! I have never seen a more delusional fan base. 40 years of some of the most pathetic football in all of the nation, getting utterly owned by their most hated rival for the better part of two decades, and all it takes is one snake oil salesman for you guys to think you are on top of the Big ten. Do me a favor, actually WIN the big ten, or maybe even make it out of the bottom feeder bowl games, before you start claiming your superiority.

You guys are really quite pathetic.

And yes, Golden Shower (nice screen name, very funny) we are thankful for our higher education at the better University. Thanks.

We are not claiming our team has been a beacon of success the last few decades, but PLEEEEEEASE quit acting like 10 years of good football out of Madison is something to put that craphole on the map!!! I'm sure you're old enough to remember Camp Randall being half empty until Barry started having success. You success under Alvarez will NEVER be realized again, NEVER, there is no way now that the U has TCF on campus that recruits will chose UW over UM, sorry, not a chance. The recruits these days care about your Rose Bowl a dozen years ago about as much as our 6 national championships 4 decades ago, as they weren't around to remember either.

So who is really more delusional???

I will, once again, try to explain that Badger attendance under Don Morton was the aberration, not the rule, before Alvarez. The teams of Dave McClain (you know, the guy the award for best coaching effort in the Big 10 is named after) were competitive and the stands were filled.

I know facts will disrupt this argument, but here is a link to the actual attendance statistics.

I like to be technical so.......

Technically we have won 10 games in the last 2 years. Since this time 2 years ago we won: 0 in 2007, 7 in 2008 and 3 so far (4 after Saturday) in 2009.

I'm just wondering if they sucked as much then as they do now.

Lloyd Braun (by the way - love the screen name) -

Please re-read my post. I admit that the Gophers have a long way to go. My point is simply that the Badgers are on the decline. Penn St. and Ohio St. certainly have a stronghold on the conference right now, which will be difficult for any second-tier Big Ten team to penetrate (with the exception of Michigan perhaps). Your squad once was in that discussion. No longer. Your own delusion is the thought that you're still in 1994. My friend, I'm so sorry to reveal that your tirade only corroborates the fact that you know this is true. You're like the red-faced guy that screams "No I didn't" when confronted with the obvious fact that he wet his pants in public. For why else would you be posting on a Gophers board if our team were such an after-thought.

I'm not sure if I enjoy the rise of the Gophers as much as I enjoy the systematic deterioration of your Badgers - and watching the sobering reality unfold upon the arrogant. Somehow I picture you in red and white zubaz.

Oh ... and your argument about a "better University" ... perhaps facts elude you as much as reason. Of the major vocations a university teaches, they are a virtual tie, with a slight nod to the U of M. Both Universities have excellent engineering and business schools that routinely leap-frog each other in the rankings. The U has routinely maintained a slightly higher ranking across the board with respect to medical school. But the tie-breaker ... your law school sucks. Go fish.

Most Badger fans, and I have a handful of friends who are, dislike the ceo of their football program (Bielema). I think there is growing sentiment to oust him. If that's the case, and they pull in a high caliber coach, they are a buy and hold stock.
Minnesota is like a growth stock at this point and EVERYONE should be buying right now. The momentum is positive and people are looking for improving results.
I'd put a rating of strong buy on Minnesota and hold on Wisconsin for now. Neither warrants a sell.

And Wisky...

I like to be technical so.......

Technically we have won 10 games in the last 2 years. Since this time 2 years ago we won: 0 in 2007, 7 in 2008 and 3 so far (4 after Saturday) in 2009.

Well, if you compare the record from only last year and this year so far, Wisky has won....

11! Quite dominant, I guess...

2008: 7 - 6
2009: 4 - 0 (so far)

... on second thought, maybe I misunderstood - is it your alma mater's ever-important dairy program that you're touting? If that's the case ... I guess you win. Just desserts.

Actually, you could make a case for Wisconsin football waning before the season started with 2 fewer victories each year, but so far with Wisconsin coming in at 4-0, they look like they are rebounding and will probably end up with the same or greater victories than last season.

Let's just hope one of those victories isn't this Saturday and enjoy the game!!
Should be a good one and would be very surprised if it wasn't a pretty tight game that could go either way.

We'll see how much decline happens in Madison over the next couple of years. Considering they have everyone but Graham coming back on offense next year (and Kendricks isn't exactly a terrible replacement for Graham), they're going to put points up on the board. If the defense continues to improve with the young players (they have a number of true freshmen getting serious playing time right now, watch freshmen Chris Borland and Mike Taylor this weekend) they're going to have a good year next year.

Total Wins

As a Gopher fan some of our arguements are bad. When you win 12 games, it is pretty hard to sustain that. Alavarez has some 7 and 6 win seasons as well. They are young. We (Gophers) need to win at least 8 games this year with the experience we have on the field. Then I will say we are headed in the right direction.

Since 2002 to present day. I hope that this year leads to us being in the conversation with those top five programs.

Wins (CONF.)
OSU 79 (48)
Wis 66 (33)
Mich 63 (41)
Iowa 63 (37)
PSU 59 (31)

MN 49 (22)
Pur 49 (27)

MSU 43 (23)
NW 43 (25)

IN 30 (11)
IL 28 (15)

I started dollar cost averaging on the Gophers back in the late 90s, and I have not seen much of a long-term return yet. But I will still keep making my monthly contributions, and have actually increased it a little lately. I think the steady, long-term investor will will eventually do well, but I don't think we are seeing a bull market yet.

I would sooner flush my money down the toilet than invest in Bucky.

Progam on the Wane...

Responding to the Goldie fans who were part of this title thread this week.

1. Notice the number of young players for UW today? We are a freshman and Soph dominated team.

2. Game was not that close folks. Badgers made errors coming down the stretch and let the Gophs back in it. UW dominated the stats, don't be fooled by the score. Don't let Brewster sell you that about how close you are. Couple unprobable plays kept you in it.

3. Fans over here made fun of our use of and discussion of the stats and analysis on Buckyville. How dare we inject facts into the dicussion! The stats don't lie, we predicted the game very close to how it came out.

4. 5-0 this year, and 6 and 0 for the axe.

5. All the emotion and talk of the new stadium meant little when the ball got kicked.

6. Game is played between the lines not between the lips. Say hi to Royston for us.

7. We are anything but a program on the wane.

Don't hurt yourself patting your own back there chump.

I wouldn't say you guys looked that dominant....the Gophs looked (once again) unprepared and undisciplined. Clay looked good. Your O-line looked alright. Other than that, the Gopher offense continuously stopped itself today (once again).

Far from impressed by Wisconsin. A running game that ran all over a tired defense. Be happy that you beat a marginal B10 team. As for the "the game wasn't all that close" comment because of Becky errors, same can be said for the Gophers. If Fisch wasn't trying to get cute in the red zone and ran regular plays, Gophers would've been up 21-10 at the half, not 13-10. Both teams had errors that kept the other team in the game. Bennett fumbled, inept playcalling, etc.

You are following the Glen Mason path to mediocrity. Bulemia is not a very good coach and your team isn't ranked. Remind me again why Wisconsin is a good team? Two mediocre teams played today.

I haven't seen Wisconsin do much with Bulemia at the helm. Regardless of what happened today, I doubt Wisconsin does much for some time with him there.
