That’s what they were expecting, that’s why they called the play according to both Mendoza and Cignetti interviews. When they saw the defense they hoped for they knew the play might work. If they didn’t see the D they hoped for then they probably would’ve changed the play at the line.

He wasn’t viewed as a heisman contender because of the team he was on. He has been the consensus #1 QB pick for the NFL draft for over a year.

Watch the replace dude. The linebacker fit in the wrong spot. They had an extra guy in a gap on one side and they were short a man on the other side

There isn’t a defense from high school to pro that is by design not gap sound.

I'm not sure that is accurate. Most "experts" were crowning Arch Manning as the Heisman and top draft pick before the season started.

"Experts" make a lot of pre-season determinations about players and teams. A vast majority of those determinations end up being very wrong.

I’m not great at finding old articles, but here is one from summer. Everyone knew he was one of the top QBs whether he was a heisman favorite or not.
