Why is the issue of alcohol sales at TCF so difficult to figure out?

Coleman should be a less cranky guy, considering he is almost 60 and he traded in his older wife for a new, sleek model a few years ago. Real class!

I bet that old geezer quoted in the article doesn't even have one beer at a games.

He is about as legitimate as the so called mortgage housing victims cited in the red star boo hoo for the victims articles. Lets see, I'll max out my equity, sign up for a ARM, then whine when the rates go up?????

The answer is NO. My tax dollars, tuition dollars, and season tickets go to support the U of M and their athletic facilities. I want to be treated like everyone else that uses those facilities. At the moment, I cannot even afford season tickets, but some day, if I work hard, I will buy them, heck I may even get the suit tiks if I want to work that hard, but in the end its up to me.

So should all tickets be the same price? Or maybe we should go back to the drawing board and redesign the stadium so the field rotates during the whole game, that way everyone gets a 50 yard line seat for the same amount of time each game.

This is the way college football is. You (we) have been spoiled in terms of alcoholic consumption in the metrodome. If this is the sacrifice we need to make to have on campus football, then by all means, go ahead.
 

I can't add much to this discussion that hasn't already been said except...

1) All seats are not equal...some have chair backs, some benches. Some have a view of the 50, some the 20, others the endzone.
2) This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. It's like this in 90% of the other NCAA stadiums and also like this at other University venues.
3) I'm glad I just moved up 2 spots in the selection process.
 


I don't care if they sell alcohol

in the premium seats. I have season tickets and I never drank at the dome. I don't care who drinks just don't bother me.
I also don't have a problem calling myself an elitist. Everyday when I leave the house and I see what is walking around in the general population I do think that I am better than most of these people.
I am also sure that the people that really stick out are from Wisconsin.

There's no reason to extend Prohibition to the premium seats. I've enjoyed many an overpriced beer during Gopher games at the dome, but I can certainly live without it (especially considering that No alcohol at TCF = No chance the Vikings will ever play there). But the big tickets deserve the opportunity to drink.
 

Minnesotans never cease to amaze me. Alcohol sales in club rooms/suites has been going on in Williams and Mariucci, not to mention Camp Randall, Kinnick Stadium, Ross-Ade Stadium, Ohio Stadium, etc. This is nothing new. This was always the plan. Why the fuss now? This model is used at schools almost everywhere.

The reason they can do it in club rooms is that they are "premium" seats. You pay a "premium" for them, the school gets more money, and therefore you get "premium" benefits. A suite costs $45,000 per season. You seriously don't think that's different that your $250 seat? Seriously? The fact is, the University can monitor and control alcohol consumption in that limited environment and reap the benefits of premium revenue (which they absolutely need).

They cannot effectively monitor alcohol consumption in the general masses. That's why it won't be allowed. The last thing they need is for some student to be found passed out or dead in the end zone bathroom because he was drinking beer that the university sold to him at the stadium.

That alcohol abuse is a public health issue and, I believe, one that this country is not prepared to take the "First Step" on. However, in my opinion, it is worth discussing. The amount of money this country spends on the "War on Drugs" is ridiculous when you consider the number of lives that are taken and/or wasted by alcohol. I know that this is not Madison or Iowa City when it comes to alcohol consumption on game day - and I thank God for that. Just look at what a ridiculous mess the Hawkeye fans were at their last game at the dome. They knew it was their "last call for alcohol" at a Gopher game and they couldn't handle it. I think that we can enjoy the Gophers games without any alcohol - that's the way I do it. Am I going to impose that on others? Do what you want - I'll just watch and be thankful its not me and hope nobody gets hurt.

Haha, I was thinking maybe after every 7 1/2 minutes of playing time, the game will be delayed 10minutes and everyone rotates over 2 sections. This way everyone will be sitting in each part of the stadium for exactly 7 1/2 mintues. But what happens in overtime? Some will be mad because they didn't get to sit at the 50 yard line as long as everyone else. A riot may occur. :D

I have over 25 years experience in secreting alcohol into college games. And if they allow tailgaiting anywhere close to the game, I will provide you with free refills, but you must act now.

You want

to be treated like everyone else who paid to get into that portion of the stadium that you paid to get into. That is the very best you can hope for.

You want to experience all the things that can be experienced in that facility go on a tour, but don't expect to be able to buy a beer then either.

Th problem is, there has been alcohol at Gopher games since 1984 or 85 (I know at least in 82 & 83 there wasn't beer).

So people have the last 25 years thinking that beer is a right at Gopher games.
