Smith and his advisors must be more confident than I am. Unless he blows up at the combine, he's currently looking like a Day 3 prospect.

I’m sure he’d be welcomed back if he decided to stay. I think him playing for another school next year is as likely as him playing in the nfl next year.

I have had the same thought. Scouts know about him, but being at a school with higher visibility (perceived or real) might up his profile.
 

It seems surprising to me that he wouldn't go in the top 3 rounds, he seems better than Mafe both in terms of stats and the eye test. Is it because Mafe's smaller and faster and can play LB instead of DE?

He can come back to college if the NFL opportunity he's looking for isn't there.

Question will be if that's back with Gophers or with some other school with more money.

I'm not sure a hard cap is needed. College football had a hard cap at one point: $0. Some people worked around it.

I think the better thing would be to limit transfers to one transfer, that's it, and you have to sit out for one season of play.

I doubt Daniels heads to tOSU if he has to sit this season. He would HAVE to consider the possibility that a true freshman could come in and take his spot during the following year. But when you can transfer KNOWING your spot is open for you, it makes it easier.

Not really. There are plenty of blue bloods that have players that aren't going to go on day 1 or 2. Their best players go that early, but other starters are day 3 for them.

Just look in our back yard. Daniels left to go to a blue blood, most likely is getting more than he got here, but I think most would feel he'll go around the same round as Smith, or even later.

He will measure extremely well at the combine. He's a perfect 3-4 DE with his size and pass rushing ability. He finished second in the B1G in sacks this year with 10.5, only .5 off the lead. He also just turned 21 this summer, so he is young for this being his 4th season.

It would be very surprising if he lasted to day 3.

I don't understand why he'd go somewhere else at this point since he really wouldn't gain much. At MN he gets to be a big fish in a smaller pond and will play against almost the exact same teams he'd play against if he transferred somewhere else. At least if he stays here he's the top guy who gets all the big time reps.

There is zero chance he doesn't go fairly early in the draft with his size. NFL drafts on potential as much as it does on production. Guys built like Smith are not easy to come by.

Mo Omonode, DT transfer had one year of eligibility. If he didn't walk does that mean he can come back? Injury year??
