Who walks on Saturday?

A little surprising that Smith is even wavering at all because he seemed like a lock to head into the draft after this season. Would be awesome if he elected to come back.

Of the guys with more than one year left he seems like the only one that would have legit pro potential if he came out early. The rest almost certainly need another year of college ball before trying the NFL.

Will be interesting to see if anybody is hanging it up early and decides to walk on senior day.

He hasn't shown out very well against better competition this year. It seems more and more likely that he comes back. That would be huge! We need to retain all the talent possible to have a better year next year.

i'd imagine this is all contingent on what his agent/advisors have told him his stock looks like. I've seen most mocks say he's a 4th rounder. Nothing to scoff at but he would have a chance to ramp up that stock (and guaranteed money) potentially coming back then. will be interesting to see but he's been a great ambassador of the U and wish him nothing but the best either way.

Agree. It's always hard to tell with DEs/Edge players. I thought Joyner would be drawing an NFL paycheck (if only on a practice squad) but he's not. Smith is better than Joyner, but if he projects as a Day 3 guy I have to think he'll return to school, either here or at a helmet school.

If G League players can play college basketball, I wonder what would stop UFDAs (or player drafted lower than expected) with eligibility left can come back?

Ask Diego Pavia. He's going to play college football until he's old enough to collect social security.

DL has already been the bright spot in a weak defensive unit this year. I also think some of the younger guys like Jaxon Howard are gonna break out next year.
I'd better get my eyes checked!

If he sticks around, we’re about to have one hell of a defensive line next year
Excuse me? We lose both DT on a line that can't stop the run with no one behind them. Have you watched our defense this year?

97 is terrible. 91 has under performed. I look forward to having some new fellas in there next year prob combo of young guys we have on roster and portal. .

This is what I'm thinking. Smith could make huge NIL money going to a blue blood for a year.
Sad, but very true. Much more likely than us being able to pay him.

College football is S___ until a hard cap is instituted

If a kid is good enough to get drafted and wants to leave early, that is awesome.

I can't imagine getting drafted into the NFL. You never know if your senior year is going to result in a terrible injury or something bad so you have to take your chance when it comes.

I think he is a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick which means 3 year contract and at least $1 million.

Good for you kid. Go get paid !

Just don't forget to donate back to the school that helped you get there.

Wow bringing Smith back would be great.

I wouldn’t blame him for opting for the draft.
Id be surprised if he came back to the Gophers. I could see him being offered more money from another college team or he opts for the draft.

So he's not good enough to get drafted before the fourth round, but he's so good he will have blue bloods clamoring to throw lots of NIL dollars at him? Seems a bit incongruous.
