Who should be in the 12 team playoffs?

Far be it for me to defend Bama, but they beat the number three team in the regular season. Their resume is better than ND. (I dislike ND as well.)

ESPN shills saying no group of 5 team should make it in the future is dumb. I agree having both JMU and Tulane in over some other teams is a little much. But a spot should be reserved each year for a team from one of those leagues. The way the game is organized right now and the bias in rankings would make it nearly impossible for them to make it in the future.

Kind of interesting. Notre Dame has zero bad losses, both early in the year. Bama beat georgia but lost to an awful fsu team and to Oklahoma at home (why is that better than either of nds losses) and then got dunked on by Georgia last night (which you punished byu for losing, why not bama?) why isn’t Texas in that convo? One bad loss to Florida with other losses to OSU on the road and Georgia (by a similar margin to bama) but beat a&m and that Oklahoma team bama couldn’t?

The logic puzzle makes zero sense and that’s really all I care is that the logic is consistently applied

My argument:

They lost to 5-7 FSU and were destroyed yesterday.

Notre Dame lost two close games by a few points to two playoff teams in the first two weeks of the season.

Why do I need to see sec or big ten team #5?

Disagree.
Notre dame lost close to two top 10 teams and beat everyone else

Bama lost 3 times including their best win beating them by 21 and Florida state beating them by multiple scores.
Florida state 4-7 in games against teams that aren’t bama

Yeah I’d rather see what the Domers can do than see this awful Bama squad again.

By what? They’re behind nd in SP+, FPI, efficiency, and game control. They’re ahead in SOR and that’s about it

Texas has more top 15 wins than bama
Same number of losses.
Lost to Georgia just as terribly as bama.
Lost to Florida (I know they’re 4-8 but they beat Florida state who beat bama)
Lost to Ohio State

They beat four ranked teams, Georgia, Vandy, Tennessee and Mizzou. ND beat two. USC and Pitt, and Pitt was barely ranked (like Minnesota beating Nebraska). Their SOS was just better.

TN isn’t ranked
Missouri and Tennessee combined to beat zero teams with winning records this year

They were 11 at the time.

Ultimately, I don't care that much between Bama and ND. Both are among my least favorite teams in the country with obnoxious, entitled fan bases.

Alabamas case to be in is they beat georgia

Does Georgia beating the hell out of them at the end of the season change the value of them beating Georgia earlier?
Unfortunately until expanded and more auto bids, this is issue every year.

BYU was beat soundly by same team twice, but beat everyone else.

Alabama split with Georgia with a win at Georgia

Miami won H2H over Notre Dame.

I think they ended up with best bracket they could.

They should just rename the CFP to become the "Bama-ESPN Invitational Tourney". No matter how bad Bama is, ESPN will make sure they'll always get a slot.
Alabama missed the CFP on 2024, also with 3 losses.

That would be like saying bamas Loss to fsu was fine because they were ranked at points. Citing being ranked in the ap is just ridiculous. Joy is we have next to no idea how the middle of the packs compare to each other consistently across conferences. We just think they’re better because recruiting services rank their classes higher and espn tells you they are

I’m still a proponent that of they’re going to try to say we won’t punish for title games they just lock the rankings prior and then just autobids can get in and spoil. ND somehow went from in to out despite neither Miami or ND playing

They have to go with 24 or 32 and match FCS.

4 teams for each P4 (16)
2 Group if 5
6 at large.

I think this would also complement a new calendar nicely for coaching cycle and portal.

Very tough to choose down at the bottom of this bracket, but I think Notre Dame would beat Alabama. I actually think Texas would beat them on a neutral field as well. Perhaps not BYU…although I think they had a better season on the whole. So yeah, make of that what you will lol.

ND a top 5 teams in country easily. Having both Tulane and JMU in over them is silly
top 5 is an interesting take when they're clearly not as good as the top 4 and lost to A&M h2h plus lost another game.

Tulane and JMU being in the CFP is one of the few good things about it.

More of that, less handing spots to the Notre Dames of the world simply because of their name.
Correct. Never understood that FBS conferences shouldn’t be included. It’s the only sport that is done that way.
