Which lineup would you choose for the ultimate music festival?

During a recent work training, we had various wellness activities offered, and I led a music festival fantasy draft with eight other co-workers. The concept was simple and familiar to anyone who has participated in fantasy football draft--a snake draft for 11 rounds. Here were the chosen lineups, I'm curious to see where GopherHolers would plunk down their hard-earned money (I'll share which was my lineup after a couple of days):

A: Radiohead, The Strokes, The Flaming Lips, The White Stripes, Wolfmother, The Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, The National, The Black Keys, Beck, and Khruangbin

B: Rolling Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, The Grateful Dead, U2, CCR, Foo Fighters, Santana, The Police, Crosby, Stills, & Nash

C: Bob Dylan, Taylor Swift, The Cure, The Smiths, Jimi Hendrix, Oasis, Weezer, Vivaldi, Sufjan Stevens, The Pogues, Ritchie Valens

D: The Beatles, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Garth Brooks, Van Morrison, Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, Dr. Dre, Neil Young, Wilco, and Kendrick Lamar

E: Buddy Holly, The Turtles, John Lennon, The Zombies, Kiss, Panic at the Disco, MGMT, Death Cab for Cutie, Beirut, Real Estate, and Vansire

F: Prince, Van Halen, Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Collective Soul, Rush, The Clash, Imagine Dragons, Outkast, Wyclef Jean, and Shania Twain

G: Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Fugazi, Sublime, The Stooges, Hole, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, No Doubt, Metric, The Heartless Bastards, Dr. Dog

H: Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, The Talking Heads, Johnny Cash, A Tribe Called Quest, The Band, Los Lobos, The Eagles, Sturgill Simpson

I: The Ramones, David Bowie, Velvet Underground, Bruce Springsteen, James Brown, Sonic Youth, Can, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Pixies, LCD Soundsystem, Townes Van Zandt

Foo Fighters top my bucket list and their festival mates are great. If you haven’t seen Imagine Dragons live, you might want to work on that. Prince goes without saying, imo.

D just had too many artists I am fanatical about, so I went with that one. 4 are unquestionably in my Top 10.

I, is loaded with artists while are not high in my playlist necessarily (except Bruce) I would love to see from a historical perspective.

I would have a blast at any of them.

These folks are all much "lighter" in musical taste than me. Lot of bands that would be top 10 for me like Metallica, Ozzy/Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, that ilk, went undrafted.

I’m with you. Seems odd that those three weren’t drafted. Depending on which festival each was in, not sure my pick would change. Also, where is Rick Springfield!

I pretty agree with you except I have F a slight step ahead of B.

F. I'm surprised to find myself thinking it's not particularly close either. The Clash, Rush and Petty are my top three in terms of bands I regret I never saw, with the clash being my all-time favorite band. Also I looked into seeing Petty on his last tour and let it slide because the bots took all the tickets in about 30 seconds. Then of course he died a few months later. Huge regret.

With the action-packed Prince and Van Halen shows as part of that it's a no brainer.

Okay now that I look a little closer and see James Brown is in along with Vu and the Ramones I guess that gives F after decent run for its money.

I decided to count how many acts I've seen already:27. That takes A out of it since I've seen all but 2 of them.

I just can't pick D based solely on the Beatles.

I'm leaning towards "I" based on James Brown.

Friday (Relax) - Eagles, Kansas, Bad Company, Steve Miller Band, 38 Special, The Police, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Doobie Brothers, Blue Oyster Cult and The Cars.

Saturday (Revolt) - Tool, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Black Sabbath, GNR, Dio, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam and The Pixies.

The best live band for sure. I saw them when they were in their 40's and they killed it.
Live at Leads! Great album.
They dominated the Stones, Rock n Roll Circus.

One wrinkle that I didn't mention was that the lineups would be sent out for votes among our co-workers to see who the ultimate winner would be and there's just not a lot of heavy metal heads in my workforce, so that could have definitely influenced the lack of metal in the mix.

When the draft ended and I looked at all our boards, I was shocked to realize no one had taken The Who, as were others. For myself, I think I just lost them on my board or somehow thought they had been picked (even though I was running the board). The Kinks were a huge oversight too. I wish I would have had space for Elvis Costello also.

I listened to the Summer of Soul soundtrack yesterday. You could have just invited everyone that played the Harlem Festival and called it a day, including Stevie (in the movie but not on album).

I just found out there’s a podcast called The Wonder of Stevie that covers his sublime period from ‘72 to’76. Haven’t listened yet but will definitely be checking it out.
