Where was our Student Section??

It seems like most of students at U are international. They are in the library and have no clue what football is. Worst Greek system and worst student section in Big Ten. I am a horrible fan as well. Gave up season tickets two years back. Like the Common Man always says, "This is a terrible town with terrible fans! We all know the real answer. Just f ing win and we will come back. I mean 3 f ing wins against Michigan in 40 years!!!

The student section is very young! They're supposed to be handle with kid gloves. Not that kind of criticism. ;)

At least these international students pay higher tuition, and won't cause any problems that the administration does not want. Win Win to me. What is not to like about?

Now serious note
What about International students at USC home games? It is all about the U to make it happen. I didn't have a clue when I was freshman. Now I have some clues. Lord knows what people are doing at the U administration, athletic dept. and admission office. What about basketball? It is as universal as you can get for a sport. If we're going to accept a lot of international students every year, why shouldn't they make any efforts to turn them into Gopher football fan or basketball? It is not like they don't like any sporting events. No matter where you came from, people love competitive sport. But we do need to have real thing on the field or court to showcase. Not Meh product. I'm saying all of these as someone who used to be an international student.

Play the game under the lights, better product on the field, weather, etc.....Whether its at Memorial, Metrodome, or TCF, WIN consistently and they will show up.

Exactly, I don't know what is so hard to understand that WINNING! solves most of these issues that people question about. I am a die-hard season ticket holder and will be at every game I can no matter where this program is at, but on the other hand not everyone is like that and until you win consistently you will not fill up TCF on a consistent basis especially the student section.

That's what everyone at Michigan State said too.

Fine, i get it. Our fans in Minnesota suck. They want us to win before they show up. Ridiculous. If the game is in hand, why even spend the money? Who cares about that type of fan. The reason I suggested alumni is because I want people who care about being on campus and having fun no matter the outcome.

You shot down my idea, do you have one?
The Gopher Athletic Department, because that fan vastly outnumbers the type of fan that will continually spend money (and have fun) on a losing product.

For those that think they can simply "change the atmosphere" but not change the product on the field, and they'll be able to fill the stadium with 50k paying customers, I think we'll just have to agree to disagree.

The University can say that Football is a priority, but when so many within the community don't care (such as professors and admin.) it sends a message to the students.
Yes, because as we all know, college administrators and professors set the social trends when it comes to people ages 18-22. The students want to care more about football, but they can't because their geography professor doesn't like it.

Unlike any major university I've seen or heard. (USC, MIchigan, Kansas State, Missouri,) Should be a lecture on economics. Professors seem to have quite a political influence though.

The average student isn't a die hard fan like we are. They're not going to get up early on a Saturday to watch an inferior product. Sadly, most students are fair weather fans, and it's the U's job to create a product that wins, and people will want to watch win.

I am a freshman here and that is exactly the problem. The games are not that fun to watch at this point. Watching your team get beat a majority of the weeks(against the actualy B1G teams) is more fun in a warm room inside. It has gotten a point where on the facebook page, students are unable to sell a single ticket for 5 dollars. Waking up early to go to these games does not seem worth it at times. I have missed one game this season(purdue) due to a family event. I will go to the MSU game but that attendance will be baaaad from the students. Nobody wants to go to the games and would rather spend the money on things for parties. Start winning or get a more exciting product on the field and the attendance will change. The atmosphere at this point is boring. Coach Kill can hopefully fix that.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying but we are 3-4 at home against Big Ten opponents the past two years. It isn't great but it isn't terrible either considering our past. We're also 8-6 overall at home the past two years.

I'd day it has more to do with the word atmosphere you mentioned than the product in the field. You can have an awful team with fan support if the game is still fun to go to. You've gotta make the games fun for people and if that isn't via the product on the field, you need other things to make it that way. Tailgating, music, etc.

But at the end of the day, nobody wants to waste time/money to watch an ass kicking.... We have to win. I'm sick of the "we're young excuse". Teams across the country can win with freshman and sophomores.

Win and they will come.

We are only going to start to sell out the year after we win and win big and that will only last if we keep winning.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!

Exactly. Winning games = better recruits = more wins = more butts in seats = more money = ability to entice big name coaches = more wins.....it's a vicious cycle.

Shut up about it. It's out of our control, I'm sick of seeing/hearing complaints about it. If you aren't physically pounding on the U's admin's doors with great and magical ideas to 'fix' this problem, then just stop complaining about it.

The only cure-all for this issue is winning. That's another thing out of our control as fans.

Lame reasoning. Youth these days!

Solution: Sign Ricky Rubio. It worked for the wolves.

Lame reasoning. Youth these days!

Yeah,.....that's the point. The youth these days. And I'm sorry but show me youth in any generation that like watching their team lose....in the cold...without beer....and 20 credits this semester. You gotta win baby!

Gophers not the only B1G school with crappy student support

Never mind. Someone beat me to it (wimpy MSU students).

But you have beer. And they usually do win at home. And we built you the stadium that you wanted. And it wasn't cold. And the majority don't take 20 credits. Maybe coach Kill can walk around the student section and hold hands during the game and tell everyone it will be alright?
