He was a shadow of himself for 5 of the 6 halfs in Maui. Is he in a slump? Did his collision with Joey King make him dizzy? Usually if he has a bad game he bounces back the next night. It's strange to see our star player struggling for three games in a row.

Will he get it back for FSU, or is this going to drag on for longer?

I thought the same thing about the bump with Joey. Andre can not make dumb fouls like he did yesterday and expect this team to compete at a high level.

Same here. Hopefully it's a matter of players learning their roles(and feeling comfortable) in the new system. The first stretch of quality opponents. Game against FSU will be interesting.

As someone pointed out the other day, we lack size at the 1 through 4 positions.

The Tubster really left this team in a pickle.

I think he will be fine. He has proven to be able to score, and score in bunches, against very good teams and players. He is the least of the concerns I have about the team, IMO...

His shooting in the second half of the last several games has been really bad, maybe tired legs and too many minutes in this pressing style?

Hopefully Dre can get back into a leadership role, we need him badly!

Norwood didn't want the Tubster's recruits Alvin Ellis and Alex Foster and Joe Coleman didn't fit Coach P.'s running game. But if you want to keep blaming the Tubster feel free.

What a load of crap.

He started slow/inconsistent last year too. Getting back to the Barn might help. I bet the FSU game will be his Memphis game this year.

Remedy for Dre when he's not getting shots to fall? Keep shooting.

Also think Pitino may be a little quick on the benching of Dre & Austin when they get 2 fouls.. gotta have them on the court.

Two fouls AND three games in three days may have been a factor.

I've been wondering if it's a little bit of getting acclimated to being "the Man". It's one thing being a great player behind a couple of grizzled veterans like Trevor and Rodney. It another thing altogether to be the alpha male. He could very well be pressing a little, forcing things.

I'm guessing he learned a few things in Maui. He'll be fine

I wondered the same thing when he had the collision with King. You almost have to wonder if he got concussed. In any case, I hope he's himself soon.

That too.

I think he is still getting acclimated to the new system as well. In the Chaminade game, there were a couple of times that I noticed he looked confused on what to do on offense. He looked over at Pitino a couple times and Pitino directed him to do a deep cut, where you cut from the top left side of the three point line, down to the baseline and through to the opposite corner.

Im not too worried about him though. He's a smart kid, he'll figure it out.

hand

After observing Dre up close in Maui, my opinion is that something was not right. I noticed before the Arkansas game that the MN trainer was looking at his hand/wrist on the bench, but Dre never had anything taped or braced, so it couldn't have been very severe. He didn't look comfortable shooting the ball, however, even in warmups. I predict a few days rest does him good and he comes out gangbusters at home against FSU.

FYI, DeAndre Mathieu hurt his left hand in the Syracuse game and had two fingers taped for the rest of the tournament, which I thought pretty clearly affected his ball-handling in the last two games.

The other factor is Malik Smith. Smith is a volume shot taker -often early in the clock. There are a lot of possessions where Andre doesn't get a look- whereas he nearly always did last year. We will have to see how these to learn to play with each other. I'm not saying it's bad- but it is different.

Like others have said.....Dre is getting used to the new system. Add that in with the fact that he is no longer our primary ball handler and that may have something to do with it. I also think that the pressure of a constant press tires the players and that too could have an impact. Not to mention that we have been playing from behind quite a bit these past few games. Seems to rattle the team and force them into a panic......throwing up some poor shots.

He will work through it.

We won 5 games and several on GopherHole thought Coach P was the Second Coming. We lost to Syracuse and Arkansas, and several on GopherHole thought we were worthless. We beat Chaminade and it was a nothing game. Then several Holers have all of the solutions, like Terry Ryan has for the Twins. And none of us knows nothing, so let's just babble, and let the games play out and enjoy the entertainment. We are gonna win some, we are gonna lose some. But unlike the Twins, none of the games will be rained out.

I am at the age where I no longer throw up poor shots. I just throw up.

In a 90 year old building, there are no sure things. There's something less than a 2% chance of it though.

I kind of hope he doesn't have a huge season. I know that is horrible to say, but we NEED him next year

A couple of weeks ago Reusse predicted Andre would not be back next year. Totally preposterous. Only way he isn't back is if he is thrown out of school or injured.

Reusse also was sure that Travis was coming here. I still enjoy the guy because his Twitter is off the charts funny. Check out this mornings Tweet:

Also he loves tweeting pictures where his Dad shoes are:

Even if Andre finishes the season averaging 20 points, I won't be at all nervous about him leaving early.

He isn't going anywhere... Plus, a player leaving early is an excellent thing. It is great for recruiting.

In other news, we're still waiting for Andre to come back. 3-13 from the floor tonight.

It's great as long as you can replace him. ;)

But you're right. He's not leaving early. I think Andre is getting used to the new system while trying to take on that leadership role. It's a struggle right now, but he'll get there.

Being able to score 20+ points on a bad shooting night shows how good of a player he is though. Or it could just be the refs...

3-13 from the floor, 12-16 from the line. But remember, according to GW, free throws are not important, and in addition, according to dboy, rebounds off missed free throws shouldn't count. :horse:
