What's going on with Iowa?

Not to rain on the parade, but in reading about the charges the "keeping a drug house" charge is relatively minor (its a misdemeanor not a felony). Its the kind of charge you get when you're living in a place that is being used to distribute. The police documents state that the cops were going after his roommate for distribution and found DJK in possession of the weed, cocaine, and Rx meds. Had he been distributing or had they suspected him of that they would have charged him with, ya know, distribution or intent to distribute. He's on the hook for some pretty serious s**t but lets not start claiming he's a drug dealer. Even the cops don't believe that.

Wherever DJK is on the drug distribution chain (if he is on it at all) is only part of the deal here. This is a serious instance of poor judgment on his part. If his roommate is selling, get the eff out of the house.

I'm not going to come down too hard on these guys. I'm old now, but I remember when I was in my early 20s and stumbled through more than a few days in a booze-driven (and occasional herb-induced) haze, but (and I hate to sound like the old guy here) the drugs they are peddling now supposedly make the stuff we sampled back in the 1970s seem like Life-Savers or M & M's.

If someone on or close to the team is running a recreational pharmacy, that's a different matter and Ferentz needs to tighten up the institutional controls to prevent stuff like this from happening.

Not sure what you are saying here. In a different article it mentioned they found a scale in DJK's bedroom. As it noted in this article, he had electronic media that said he had drugs. In other words, he was advertising the drugs for sale. The roommate is obviously taking the hit for DJK on this. But it is obvious DJK was complicent in this drug activity. Keeping a drug house is an aggravated misdemeanor, one step below a felony. DJK is getting break for cooperating. If you think he was just a user, you are naive.

RBtL of the local media...

Hampton to transfer, Robinson to miss bowl

In the span of four days, the Iowa football team lost two running backs and ruled a third ineligible for its bowl game.

FERENTZ IS NOW READING "COACHING THE SPREAD FOR DUMMIES"

Hawkeye officials issued a statement Monday confirming tailback Jewel Hampton is seeking a transfer.

IF THE RUMORS ARE RIGHT, HE BETTER TRANSFER TO SOMEWHERE THAT DOESN'T HAVE AN EXTRADITION TREATY. DOES UNIVERSITY OF BOLIVIA HAVE A FOOTBALL TEAM?

Officials also announced that fellow running back Adam Robinson would miss the Insight Bowl on Dec. 28 after “failing to comply with team expectations and policies.”

YEAH, THERE'S AN EXPECTATION THAT YOU WON'T DEAL CRACK OUT OF YOUR LOCKER. EVEN AT IOWA

On Friday, it was revealed that running back Brandon Wegher had been released from his scholarship and would transfer.

AFTER KNOCKING UP HALF OF IOWA CITY

The sophomore trio was expected to share duties in the Iowa backfield this fall, but none was available when Iowa lost its regular-season finale at Minnesota.

FOR A SCHOOL RENOWNED FOR THEIR ENGLISH DEPARTMENT, THAT'S PRETTY CRAPPY GRAMMAR

Now, none will be available for the bowl game against Missouri.

I'LL BET BOOKIES' PHONES ARE RINGING OFF THE HOOK

“Jewel Hampton has decided to leave the team and plans to transfer to another school to complete his degree and finish his career

IN PHARMACEUTICAL SALES

,” coach Kirk Ferentz said in the statement. “We wish him the best of success in the future.”

YEAH, I'M SURE YOU'LL BE A CHARACTER WITNESS AT HIS TRIAL

Ferentz and athletic director Gary Barta will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. Tuesday, though Iowa declined to expand on details — and indicated no additional comment would be available until today.

THAT SHOULD BE FUN TO WATCH. I'LL BET KIRK IS CLICKING ON MONSTER.COM SEVERAL TIMES/DAY. HIS SEARCH STRING IS "NFL HEAD COACH"

Iowa officials contacted Sunday and most of the day Monday said they were unaware or could not confirm a change in the status of Hampton.

THE HEAD PR GUY AT IOWA IS PROBABLY A FORMER KGB AGENT

Hampton, a 5-foot-9, 210-pound native of Indianapolis, suffered a season-ending knee injury Sept. 18 at Arizona. It was the second straight year Hampton was sidelined after knee surgery.

DOCTOR: "MR HAMPTON, WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO PRESCRIBE SOME PAINKILLERS?"

JEWEL: "NAHH DOC, I GOT THAT COVERED."

His 2009 season ended in July after he was hurt during non-contact drills.

THAT TAKES TALENT. HE WAS PROBABLY HIGH AND RAN INTO A BLOCKING SLED

Hampton showed freshman flashes in 2008, finishing with 463 yards and seven touchdowns, while serving as the primary backup to all-American Shonn Greene.

ILLITERATE!

“He’s shifty. He’s strong. And he’s powerful,” Hawkeye defensive end Adrian Clayborn said of Hampton before the season. “He has all of it.”

"IT" BEING COKE, WEED, AND METH

On Sunday, a man who answered the last known telephone for Hampton asked who was calling.

BUT THE REPORTER DIDN'T KNOW THE SECRET PHRASE

When a Des Moines Register reporter identified himself, the man said he was not Hampton and hung up.

JEWEL PROBABLY WAS 3 MONTHS BEHIND ON THE NEWSPAPER SUBSCRIPTION, TOO

Robinson, a former Des Moines Lincoln star, emerged as the Hawkeyes’ leading rusher this season, netting 941 yards and 10 touchdowns.

WHICH IS WHY FERENTZ HASN'T KICKED HIM OFF THE TEAM OUTRIGHT

He suffered two concussions, however, and did not play during a 27-24 loss to the Gophers.

WE STILL WOULD HAVE KICKED THEIR AZZ. ESPECIALLY IF ROBINSON WERE HALLUCINATING CUZ HE WAS ON LSD

“While Adam has been cleared medically,

WASN'T THERE A RUMOR THAT HE HAD FAILED A DRUG TEST, OR REFUSED TO FILL A DIXIE CUP?

he will not be participating in the upcoming Insight Bowl game as a result of failing to comply with team expectations and policies,” Ferentz said. “Adam will have the option to rejoin the team when classes resume in January.”

ASSUMING HE'S NOT IN JAIL AWAITING TRIAL

Three players have left the program in less than one week.

THAT'LL PUT A DENT IN THE 2-DEEPS. NOT TO MENTION THEIR GRADUATION RATE CALC

Wegher, a former Sioux City Heelan star, departed for personal reasons during summer camp in August and never returned.

HE'S ON THE RUN FROM BILL COLLECTORS

In addition to Wegher and Hampton, Ferentz told reporters senior receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos would not play at Iowa again after his arrest on drug charges.

COULDN'T FIND A BOOSTER TO POST BAIL?

With Hampton, Wegher and Robinson out of the lineup, freshman Marcus Coker is the likely starter for the Insight Bowl.

INTERESTING NAME, CONSIDERING ALL THE DRUG RUMORS. TOO BAD THEY DON'T HAVE A KID NAMED "WEED".

Coker played in six games, rushing for 403 yards, while averaging 5.0 a carry.

LOOKS LIKE HE'LL BE THE MAN NEXT YEAR

Electronice media means they have photos of him using or possessing. It doesn't have to mean anything regarding distribution. And are you pulling a RyeGuy and getting all black helicopter-y here? Because the roomie didn't take the fall for anything. The cops were specifically serving the warrant on the roommate. DJK got busted as part of that search but was not the target.

The kid is in enough trouble already without random internet dudes accusing him of stuff even the DA isn't tossing at him. DA's don't just lay down on drug convictions...if they thought he was dealing they'd accuse him of it. I never read an article that said DJK had a scale, but even if he did obviously they didn't see it as being worthy of a distribution charge since he never got one.

He shouldn't be let off the hook for anything, but he shouldn't be on the hook for anything extra either.

Actually just trying to make the point that ANY program is one bad decision away from a scandal.

If indications are true, it sounds like your squad made more than "one bad decision."

Do you really want to play the whole which program has more blemishes game?

And here's to hoping no stories break in the Pioneer Press on the eve of the tournament regarding academic scandal at the U.

(I haven't read the paper this morning. Is everything OK?)
