What? What are you talking about? I'm not pooh poohing anything. I'm telling people to get their facts straight. The U of M did not rent out McNamara Alumni Center to Nebraska. Period. It's not theirs to rent out. Period. Whether the U of M needs to do more to build gameday festivity is a different concept altogether, and I agree they do need to do more.
What a load of hair splitting crap as usual from our resident pompous windbag. It does not really matter who the legal entity is(either the U of M itself or the UMAA) that "owns" the former site of Memorial Stadium, they are joined at the hip to the University, and when push comes to shove they will do exactly what the U of M desires, when the U of M wants it done, period.
I guarantee you, back in 2009/2010 when the U of M was doing everything but performing cavity searches for Vodka bottles, strong arming Frat Row, allowing the City of Minneapolis to step all over private property owners who might have catered to Gopher fans, the U of M was pulling all the strings.
If your hallowed "Gateway Corporation" or whatever is called had decided to have a good old fashioned giant beer tent outside the Alumni Center open to all students with wristbands needed to buy beer ( a common set up) open from 7 AM to Midnight every gameday with DJ entertainment and cheap beers, the U of M would have stepped in and squashed that in a hurry.
Likewise, if the U of M wanted something new and innovative done for on foot tailgaters in this space in 2015, those who "control" that space would do something to accommodate the wishes of their powerful senior partner. The Alumni Association is not going to win any long term battles with the U of M over use of that space at Oak/Washington and University, so they will generally try to get along.
DBAGdoll68 can stomp his feet and stubbornly make his 7th grade level points, and maybe his one or two supporters might stand up in their basement and cheer.
