What Other Program in the Country...

HAHAHA!! Based on what?!?!? The Gophers have finished in the top half of the conference exactly ONE time since 1993. ONE time in 19 seasons. Most people I know don't count every 19 years as "once in awhile". Dutcher and Musselman did it more regularly, but they were cheaters. The last coach to do it "once in awhile" without cheating was John Kundla, who did it 4 straight years ending in 1966. So many here like to pretend that Minnesota basketball is so much more accomplished than Minnesota football historically. Hell, even Glen Mason managed to finish in the top half of the conference 3 times.

Why do you say that Dutcher cheated?

Minngg here evidences three delusional illnesses endemic to the Tubby Haters:

1) They have an inflated and/or unrealistic sense of Minnesota's standing in NCAA basketball historically, and especially over the last 30 years.

How many NCAA tournaments did Wisconsin make during the Steve Yoder and previous coaching regimes. Why were they able to overcome "historical standing" if the headwinds were so strong? I would argue that it was because the administration made a major commitments to the revenue sports programs.

2) They don't understand the difference between realistic and unrealistic expectations, especially as it pertains to Minnesota basketball.

See comment above re: Wisconsin basketball

3) They don't understand the difference between expecting something to happen and hoping for it to happen.

See comment above re: Wisconsin basketball. If the administration wants it to happen, it can happen. If policy wonks like MIaCturi are able to overreach on things like the Royce White punishment, the Jimmy Williams hire, the Trevor suspension, etc., then it likely won't happen. {Sorry, some of my comments are mixed within the original post above}.

How have you not accepted mediocrity...aside from posting your dissatisfaction under an alias on a message board?

By not making excuses for performance. By letting those in charge know about my dissatisfaction. By staying home and not buying tickets to see a losing program. By calling out those accepting mediocrity. Whatever I have done it is more than those that just make excuses for it or believe it can't change.

By holding my breath until I turn blue. By stomping my foot really hard. By demanding that people accept my version of what has happened, and ignoring their opinions by calling the Tubby apologists.

Fixed it for you.

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. For people who can read and are sane, it is not at all reasonable to expect the early 21st-century Gophers to finish in the top half of the Big Ten at all in any random 5-year period.

Seriously? It is not reasonable to expect the Gopher to finish in the top 6 at all in any 5 year period? Good lord. Some may have a slightly inflated view of our history, but finishing in the the top half of the B1G once every 5 years is hardly some high bar.

Personally, I believe the success of the Haskins/Ductcher era without cheating is a perfectly achievable.

Regardless of what tubby makes are the fans of UM basketball satisified that they are getting their money's worth? If you are, get behind him and let it be known. If not, express that as well.

Well, you were right on some but not all. Trent Johnson was extended prior to 5 years. Hewitt was extended in 2004 and had a contract extension rollover for each year he worked. This, of course, after he took GT to the National Championship game with GT in his 4th year coaching there. I'll give you Carmody, Sadler and DeChellis even though DeChellis took PSU to the NIT title and 4th place in conference the year he got the extension. Something Tubby has never done here.

Any more or just these bottom feeders?

I already met your challenge so no use in researching it more. However, since this research took 10-15 minutes, I'm sure there's a lot more examples.

Isn't is *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#y? I thought the post was hilarious. Not because of who it was directed to but because it was creative. A lot better than some of other "put downs" on this site.

Yes, you met the challenge. Any by doing so exposed where we are as a program. Lumped with Nebraska, Penn State, Northwestern. Now tell me how many of these coaches have done better since their extensions? How many have succeeded? Now you can see the future here.

Except that DeChellis was extended in 2009 and it resulted in Penn State making the dance (2011) for the first time in 10 years. That's succeeding to me.

Unregistered User caught mingg in an out and downright lie. Good work, UU.

Tell you what Dr. If you copy and paste one, just one of my posts with "venom" in it, I will leave voluntarily today. Face it, you just don't like my message. I have posted per the rules on this site and there is no reason to ban me. Are you afraid of me or my opinion? I am a Gopher fan concerned about the program and believe everything I am posting. Would you feel better if I lied or agreed with you all of the time? There isn't alot to discuss with MN basketball right now because we are out of the hunt. The hot topic is whether or not Tubby should be extended. I have started one thread. Just one thread on this topic. Otherwise, I have responded to others on the teams talent, Tubby's past achievements, Tubby's record here, his recruiting, his in-game coaching, etc etc. I have never attacked him as a man or a person nor have I attacked any person here that did not attack me first. I have been a member for years with over 1000 posts, mostly on the football board. So why don't you copy and paste my "venom" for all to see.

I will take ESPN as a source over your word. Thus the link in the post.

My error. They gave it to him after he won the NIT in 2009. He then finished 11th and 4th before leaving for Navy. Not exactly a program turning career.
