One of his blog posts was all about former players that stayed in state and are excelling off the court (ie Hoffarber) and that there are seemingly endless business opportunities after a player's career is over since there are so many large corporations in the twin cities. This sales pitch has spilled over to some of his tweets. It just seems like they are targeted at Reid more than anyone else.

Thanks.

I voted Stanford, but I think the Gophs have an excellent chance. We have the combo platter of an excellent management school, the local angle (program he's followed, parents can watch him play in person, etc.) and a program he feels is on an upswing. Over the weekend he got a taste of what campus life and recreations would be like and got to see his future teammates enjoying themselves in the midst of it.

The draw of excellent schools out of state will be hard to resist, though. Jonah is in Cambridge, and I assume that's all going well for him. Reid may feel that this is a chance to get out of Bedford Falls and see what the world is like elsewhere.

Well, Doogs said it was between Duke and Minnesota, so I'm going Stanford, unfortunately. I hope I'm wrong.

If Doogie thinks it is between Duke and Minnesota, then for sure it is between every school still in the running.

BTW, I have not made a prediction in the poll, because I don't trust my future on what an 18 year old kid is thinking.

Definitely surprised by the overall optimism of this poll.

Yeah, that and the fact Duke is a distant 3rd despite crystal ball's unanimous prediction in their favor.

I can't speak for everyone else's vote, but I am encouraged by the fact that Reid has set his decision date after Looney's. I think that's a good sign that Reid is not jumping out of his shoes to commit to Duke before another PF (higher ranked) takes his spot there. You would have to think Reid would realize that big minutes would be tough to come by at Duke if both Looney and Okafor commit there.

Along with that, Ryan James indicated he thinks Minnesota and Duke are the likely leaders with Stanford falling behind due to little success of their program under Dawkins. Put those items together and I think the Gophers have as good of shot as anyone else!!

Jerry Meyer just tweeted his opinion that it's unlikely Reid goes to Duke if Looney commits there. I pointed out he had them both predicted for Duke and he replied "As of the moment".

And throw in that he seemed to really, really, really enjoy his visit (Thanks for that quote Josh Martin), his dad seemed really impressed, he was hosted by Andre Hollins, a Carlson guy who chose Minnesota over Stanford, he knows an is comfortable with Ben Johnson, his high school coach is a former Gophers assistant, his high school PG is a Gophers recruit, he was recruited to MN by Rick and Richard Pitino, he used an official visit on the home town school, etc.

All that said I think he chooses MN. There is definitely a lot of encouraging signs/facts for the Gophers.

Augsburg.

Actually, I picked Stanford and I don't know why.

I'm hoping he picks us. He would be a huge--and I mean huge--get for Pitino early on.

What Josh Martin quote are you talking about? Did he comment on Reid? And great point about Andre being a Carlson dude that picked Minnesota over Stanford. I didn't even think about that.

M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A! We need a big man, giving Reid all the playing time he can handle. With our collection of guards, I see him as being "the man" down low! Reid--would love to see you in Maroon and Gold!

Martin said he really, really really liked his visit.

Suprised over 2 to 1 for gophs over stanford. Hope the holers are right!

Where did you see that he said this? Just out of curiosity.

Might have been in a Rivals article. Not completely sure where it was, but I am 100% sure I read it.

EDIT: I guess my memory was very slightly off. It wasn't after his visit to Minnesota, it was after our in home visit with him, but here is the link to the article. There were three really's in there, which was what was being referenced anyway.

Looks like Jerry Meyer just switched his prediction to the Gophers, not that it means much of anything. I'm sure that will lead to a snowball effect for others predicting the Gophers on that site as well like always.

Hard to know when it's snowballing because someone well respected made a switch, or because several people are getting the same new info.

That's true, good point. I've always gotten the impression that Reid's camp is pretty tight-lipped with info though. I will say it was interesting to hear Reid's dad give such a glowing report after the official visit, which I took as a very good sign. His dad was the one that seemed to indicate Reid probably wouldn't take an official to Minnesota earlier in the recruiting process. I think Pitino maybe has really won him over.

Yeah definitely nice to see the positive review from his Dad. Ultimately it's Reid's decision, but the higher his Dad thinks of Pitino and the Gophers, the better our chances.

When I first heard his dad's comments I wanted to be excited, but the pessimistic Gopher fan in me thought maybe he was hinting at Reid looking else where because he ended the statement with, "but I'm not the one being recruited." That kind of made it seem like he liked Minnesota, but he knew Reid was leaning Stanford/Duke. But you make a great point about Reid's dad originally not seeming to be on board with Minnesota, so it probably is a good sign that he seems to have made a 180 on the program.

Are people's impression of Reid's Dad not supporting the Gophers just based on him saying we probably wouldn't get a visit? I'm pretty sure his Dad is and was always a Gophers fan. I've seen him wearing Gopher gear numerous times. Never seen Duke, Stanford, or Gonzaga gear.

I can only speak for myself, but yeah I based it off that. That seems to be the only quote I've seen from him and I think it was around the time when Vaughn's dad said he was impressed by the Gophers when he went to a practice with Rashad. So it probably seemed even more negative.

I find it interesting that he decided to announce right after Looney's announcement date was selected. That is strong enough evidence that he didn't want to go to Duke if Looney went there. If Looney picks Duke, I believe Reid will pick Minnesota. Also, he needs to play on the outside if he wants to play in the NBA...he's too small to play an NBA PF....which team and type of play will develop his outside game the most. I'm going with Minnesota.

I think he'll pick Minnesota but the Pesemistic gopher fan in me says not to get to excited just yet. How sweet would it be to lock up Reid before the season gets going though!! I think that if we can get Reid it would really help us land Rashad. He would pretty much have everything set in place to come in and dominate for his "one and done" idea. Andre and Dre for your 2's. Nate as a PG w/Dre. Reid as a PF and Mo/EE at Center. All we would need is a SG! with Wally coming off the bench. I'm getting excited already just thinking about it!!! :D

Don't forget about the squirrel! Defensive stopper Carlos Morris
