Anything other than an F is ridiculous.

I went with C. Didn't feel like the gameplan was terrible. The guys on the field just didn't play well. The offensive line did not do their jobs. Individual players made some giant mistakes. Lots of blame to pass around on this one.

Axe game just got doubly important.

A for Absolutely Atrocious Asshat Attempt.

I hate that we title this poll "grade the coaches". Should be grad the team not just the coaches. Team gets an F for too many mistakes on all sides of the ball. But that isn't just the coaches, they players made a ton of critical mistakes that directly led to the loss.

F

They were rolling with 4 game win streak vs a team with four game losing streak and UCLA gave you a gift last night beating Iowa to give you a chance to move up the standings and get a better bowl game. Also build up momentum for an ELECTRIC atmosphere next week at home vs a Penn State team known for November losses.

F
Too many reasons to start listing them.

Coach's take a hit on this one for sure.

But ... can't make plays and players on the field just didn't. It wasn't the "calls" that caused it.

Gotta catch ball, offense and defense.
PJ sets the tone and he failed this week. Unfortunately, kind of predictable. To your point, 2 and 5 —- 9 times out of 10 this year will make a play on those two long balls in the first half that was completely unexpected. 86 I think needs to ride the pine going forward I just don’t see him anymore being a guy who helps win ball games.

Offense failed to execute and kept the defense on the field. The plays were there. I'll put this one on the offense, particularly the offensive line. If the coaches did anything wrong it was failing to get the offense mentally prepared.

This. 100%. I didn't feel like this was in any way on the coaches. The team didn't play well. Made dumb mistakes.

I mean the defensive gameplan in the first half to let AK get to play 7v7 was an unwise. The slow developing play action passes when we’re not running well are unwise. No timeout to make them punt to end the half. The coaches do coach this OL who has shown no improvement all year (at some point you need to pull better strings shuffling guys around).

Players absolutely made massive mistakes but the coaches did not have one of their best games either

Terrible loss against an aggressively average team. All momentum gone. Reminds me of the ‘22 Purdue homecoming game.
Ah HA! I think I figured it out. Rutgers is why momentum doesn't exist for PJ Fleck. Schiano is one of his mentors who was looking out for him trying to ease the pain of horrible losses. (And Schiano felt PJ (his close personal friend) ran the score up on him last year. :)

And who is responsible for the performance of the team?

Coaches and players are connected. We should be grading the team as a whole not just the coaches or just the players.

I don't understand the desire to single out just the coaches in these post game threads.

With players now getting NIL money it's become a more legitimate argument. College athletes are going to be treated more and more like pro athletes. Don't like it then play in a lower division.

Overhought this one. To quote Denny Green as Cardinals Coach "we knew what they (AK) was and we let them off the hook". Put pressure on him and make him think. Didn't do that real well. Offensively, start the scout team OL next game. Starters pissed down their leg. Shouldn't have lost this one. Solid D

O Line is just bad, can’t run and pocket collapsing all game. Dropped passes on both sides of the ball. Just a bad day all around

$500 all in to bring my family to that game. With the shitty lines getting into the stadium, the game was over at 14-0 before we even got in the stadium.

I remember PJ doing this a year or 2 ago and it still baffles me! Take a TO before half and make them punt!!! Plenty of upside to chance it as the downside is really limited.
Possible outcomes:
POSITIVE:
--block the punt (could lead to TD or FG)
--return the punt (could lead to TD or FG)
--fair catch the punt (offense would have to make a play or two for a FG or TD...not likely)
--fair catch a short punt and give Dragon a free kick for 3 (he's got the leg to try it)
--bad snap...everything is in play
NEGATIVE:
--muff the punt; it can't be advanced (they might be able to try a long FG as 5-6 seconds might be left; a 40 yard punt would make it a 55 yard FG)
--fumble the return (see above...probs more than a 50 yarder with any type of return...possibly more than 60)
--rough the punter (they still are 65 yards away from the end zone and 30 yards away for a FG attempt with only about 5-6 seconds on the clock)
NEUTRAL:
--they bomb a punt and we don't catch it....it rolls; we take a knee to end the half

When your program needs about every break, you try to make the breaks go your way instead of waiting for them to happen. MAKE THEM HAPPEN! PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!
