Going for it on 4th down, which was likely a Claeys call was very questionable seeing how well the defense had been playing. And the onside kick was atrocious. But at least we tried some things. Throwing the ball down field was really nice to see, even if Woli can't catch.

Too true.

Actually quite efficient.
0 penalties. Discipline...

Bad enough that I'm fine that he won't ever be the play-caller again

Yeah, but you can be more aggressive with going for it and kicking onsides when you have confidence that your D will bail you out.

Saw nothing much different from before which was what I expected.

It really doesn't matter that much if the OL can't control the LOS.

We will really miss KJ next year.

I went C I thought he got pretty cautious for a while in the 2nd half. They were stacking the box to stop the run inside but we kept going to it and it didn't produce much. Would have liked to see him give Leidner a few more throws, run more outside plays, and a couple more jet sweeps with Brooks with eventually a PA jet wheel route to Brooks.

Woli can't catch.

Mitch only hit him on the hands with the deep ball. He did make up for it a bit later, but that could have been a game breaker even though it was early.

Reeves put Leidner in the position of being the MVP in that game. I enjoyed the Gopher offense as much as I have enjoyed watching them all year long against Michigan, iowa and now CMU. And, by the way, CMU gave MSU all they wanted when they played Sparty.

I am all on board the REEVES for OC "...grass-roots ground-swell of one..." I loved the balance between the run and the pass and the "read" by ML. Get it over with and ink Reeves tonight TC! Reeves knows the players and you know Reeves. I may be his only supporter for the job, but I think TC will surprise some people. If I'm wrong, so be it. I liked the outcome of this "audition..."

Reeves...YES!

Pretty unimaginative, but it all starts with the o-line.

Sid, is this you?

Leidner had one of his best games, yet the offense scored 2 TDs against Central Michigan. Not good.

We got the win which is the important part. In some ways I am kind of glad the offense didn't do great today simply because it will keep any talk of Reeves for OC from ever getting off the ground. We 100% need to bring someone in from the outside and I have zero doubt that has been the plan all along.

^this. It all points to the play calling. Maybe those are all the plays Reeves had at his disposal because they obviously didn't have time to implement a new offense, but some of the plays called were too predictable.

The o-line was porous at times.

I did not like the call on 4th down and 2 to go for it. A rejuvenated CMU ended up with a TD after that play.

If I feel like being optimistic, I can make the argument that we scored 21 points despite having an interim OC and O-line/QBs coaches.

Regardless, the line needs to play better and we need a few more playmakers on offense.

I loved the call. It gave us a chance to put away the game and our defense had been playing well.

In all fairness, the lack of production from a scoring standpoint had just as much to do with the Gophers' woefully coming up on the short end of the field position battle. Prior to BBC's pick to essentially close the game, the Gophers started ONE POSSESSION out of NINE outside of their own 26-yard line.

Going for it on 4th and short, twice, near midfield and not getting it, AND the failed onside kick may not have resulted in CMU scoring points with the short field but it flipped the field in favor of CMU and continued to put the offense in position to have to go the length of the field to score points.

Once again, the poor field position for almost the entire game was also a result of not forcing turnovers (until BBC's pick).

Pretty hard for an offense, particularly one like the Gophers' at this time, to put up major points when they continually have to go 75-80 yards. They dominated the TOP battle (against a team that had done that to it's opponents all season) and put up a balanced offensive effort, 50% 3rd down conversion, and, oh yes, won the game.

With the personnel issues they had up front, and given being on the short end of the field position battle most of the game, and going almost the entire game without forcing a turnover, it would be hard to expect much more from the Gophers' offense today.

Surprised by some of the responses here. Wasn't a great performance but I thought there was some creativity. They found another way to get the ball in Brooks' hands. Threw the ball downfield several times.

We ran 11 more plays than C. Michigan, had a better time of possession by a long shot, and had nearly 400 yards of offense. As already mentioned, most every drive started deep in our own territory.

Again, not saying it was an awesome performance but I thought the play calling and overall performance by the offense wasn't bad.

I loved the call. It gave us a chance to put away the game and our defense had been playing well.

It's one of those plays that people have been complaining that all the time Kill punts in those situations. Then we do go for it and people complain.

Obviously it didn't work out great today, but it would have been a huge play if we had made it.

In general, the offense was much more productive then it was for most of the year. The major problem was going to the "up the middle" well too often. Reeves was able to get more out of that offense than Limey was ever able to get.

Better than Limey for whatever that's worth.

If Wolitarski catches that bomb for a 70 yard touchdown, we go up 2 scores, likely coast and everyone is talking about the great offensive day. Instead we had to adjust which was met with mixed success. I gave it a C. If Reeves is the guy, so be it. If not, I think he is a great h-backs/te coach.

Agree with you and Gophers in Iowa in thinking the game calling was quite good tonight. I gave him a B. I thought it was a big step up from Limey's games this year. Just flowed pretty good. If Wolitarsky makes the TD catch, we score 27 points. Plus the sacks Mitch took really disrupted the follow of a few series.

Here's one issue that drove me crazy this year, and Reeves kept it going today. Whenever we throw on first down and it's an incomplete pass, we always seem to run it on 2nd down. The opposition knows it and it always seems to lead to 3rd and 8. Mix it up at least once in awhile and throw it again on 2nd down just to keep the defense honest.

Whoops. I accidentally voted for F.

I was going to give it a B. I was please with how we were moving the ball. I was disappointed that we weren't able to punch in a few more drives, but I think the performance was worthy of a B.
