I never said anywhere in any post that we were the only team that was going to struggle as a favorite this weekend....However, my point is that they did this same act last year in the non-conference and a lot of posters said be patient....Things will improve and they never did considering we won 2 B10 games....I think u can also argue last years roster was better than this years despite the rash of injuries.

My problem was your comment that we would have lost to any bowl caliber team. Today NW and Mississippi St played worse.

Rah Rah speeches are as relevant as bulletin board material and an OL coach asking you to "play nasty". The naive may think it matters, but it just doesn't.

You are correct, but what DOES matter is the performance on the field: were there 5 or 6 motion penalties, an illegal formation call, 3 player ejections, two bad snaps - one of which resulted in a safety, a senior quarterback once again struggling to find open receivers, an unheralded opposing quarterback looking like a Heisman candidate against our defense. I hate to say it, but nothing ever changes with this program. We get all hyped up, ready for us to turn the corner, and are invariably disappointed once the season starts. This was a very ill-prepared team on Thursday night. Same old, same old.

Your post focuses on the right things and I fully agree.

Let's not hit the panic button after the first game of the season (especially when that game was a win against a Power 5 opponent). If we still are making these dumb unforced errors next week against lower tier competition, then I will start to express some more concern.

Yep. Discipline needs to improve. If not we have a problem. Didn't think Mitch struggled a lot and don't think we make the other qb look like a hiesman candidate either. Just a produce of what defense we we in and what play they called that took perfect advantage of it in long situations.

The #1 issue on defense was that Sawvel was way to aggressive and transparent with the blitzes. I knew when they were coming so you can be sure OSU did.... thus the screen passes and thus the success. IMO, that can be cleaned up as easily as the discipline on offense.

Totally agree with that. Defense should be stout the rest of the year if they correct that.

I give it a C-
