they beat who they were supposed to beat...nothing more nothing less---is that acceptable? if not, fire the dillyman, if so, mediocrity reigns
In the B1G West of 2016In what world is 8 wins less than a B?

By any measure since we fired Murray Warmath at the end of the 1971 season, this is a good if not excellent season. We played .556 ball in the Big Ten (5-4). We won more Big Ten games than we lost. Overall, we played .667 ball for the season (8-4). Historically speaking, since 1971, this has not happened very often. There are propaganda artists on this board and particularly in the StarTribune that would have you believe that the Big Ten teams we defeated are terrible. I don't buy that. They are Big Ten teams, they are BCS teams. The propaganda artists working for Ziggy Wilf / Vikings / NFL want nothing more than to see Claeys fired, just like they engineered Glen Mason's departure. They are terrified that Claeys is competent and that Golden Gopher fortunes are going to continue to improve under Claeys. Oregon State beat Oregon in the Civil War today. Maybe the Beavers are not as terrible as everybody said they were. We beat teams that we were supposed to beat, and Ziggy Wilf's controlled press beats us up for this, declaring it to be insufficient, or somehow reprehensible. We lost to teams that we were expected to lose to, and in 3 of those games by less than or equal to 7 points, and in the last game by 14 points, in each case, almost exactly the Las Vegas spread. Scoggins makes me puke. He should get a job with the Columbus Dispatch, so that he always has something good to write about. Scoggins never fails to defecate on the Golden Gopher football team, given the slightest opportunity. He is Dan Barreiro's numerical replacement. If this $500,000 / year Coyle does not give Tracy a 5 year contract, I will know he is just another NFL / sports betting kerietsu / organized crime plant in our AD office, just like Joel Maturi. I hope Mr. Coyle proves me wrong.
Or you have low expectations about the level at which this program should perform. You can be disappointed, but if you think 8-4/5-4 is D or F you have either been a Gopher fan for < 2-years or are so delusional that you would believe the sky isn't blue.

This is another false positive in the history of this program since it was "Moosed".

Rutgers - 0-9 in the BIG, 2-10 overall
Purdue - 1-8 in the BIG, 3-9 overall
Illinois - 2-7 in the BIG, 3-9 overall
Maryland - 3-6 in the BIG, 6-6 overall
Northwestern - 5-4 in the BIG, 6-6 overall
No propaganda is needed to say that Rutgers, Purdue, and Illinois are terrible football teams. I would respond to the rest but honestly I don't want to reread it to try and figure out where you were going with things.[/QUOTE
Every single loss was predictable before the first game was played. @ PSU facing 100,000+ hostile agitated fans in an away game. You fail to take into account the huge advantage those screaming fans give to the home team. @ Nebraska facing 90,000+ hostile agitated fans in an away game. Ditto my second comment regarding PSU, it also applies to the Cornhuskers in Memorial Stadium. @ Wisconsin facing 80,000+ hostile agitated fans in an away game. Ditto my second comment regarding PSU. It also applies to the Badgers at Camp Randall. Anybody who seriously thought we should be favored in any of these games is on drugs. As I stated before the season began, the only break we drew was playing Iowa at home instead of Kinnick Stadium. Consider that two of our losses are against (a) The Big Ten West Champion, at their house (Camp Randall), (b) The Big Ten East Champions, at their House (Beaver Stadium). So Claeys and the team are to be excoriated for losing to The Big Ten East Champ at their house and the Big Ten West Champ at their house? We did not get blown out in any of these games, unless you want to count Wisconsin. So, explain to me, how is this such an easy schedule, since we drew both the Big Ten East Champion on the highway and the Big Ten West Champion on the highway? I don't know about the Minneapolis or St. Paul papers, but the Las Vegas line in the Philadelphia Inquirer had us underdogs to the Hawkeyes, I believe by exactly 7 points. What we have here is a double standard.
No , I sat through the worst era in Golden Gopher football, the move off campus to the sh!thole called the Metrodome. I saw this program veered away from on field success as its primary measure. Why do we call this forum the "7 National Titles" forum? Do we not want number 8?LOL. Expectations? What are you basing yours on. Are you 12?

It is as easy a BIG schedule as you can really hope to get with 2 of our 3 crossover games being played against bad teams from the other division. Yes we played PSU but we avoided both Ohio State and Michigan. The BIG schedule will never be easy but compare ours to Wisconsin's and tell me we didn't have a significantly easier go of things then they did this season from a schedule standpoint.
The season wasn't a total disaster, we beat the teams we were supposed to beat and we were competitive for the most part against the good teams. The problem is that we also didn't find a way to beat any of the good teams outside of fellow middle of the packer Northwestern. For my part this is why I went C although I can understand why some went B. Agree with Spoofin that D or F is way too harsh.
Some will point to the fact that we won 8 games and be thrilled with that, to me I see a season of missed opportunities to maybe finally take that step from also ran to contender. Bottom line is the good teams find a way to win the tough games on their schedule, in 2016 we proved we are better than the bad teams but we also proved we are not quite ready from prime time as well.
Now the question becomes if we ever will be in a position to take the next step or will knocking on the doorway be the best we can hope for most years.

We have always backed off once we have seasons over .500. Why? Because that was our desperate benchmark of success based on how far we allowed this program to be kicked in the balls time and time again.
Just being "bowl eligible" means nothing if you go to "warm up bowls" or "broadcaster training bowls." Recruits see through that facade faster than trying to be hip by quoting Twenty One Pilots lyrics.
The failure of the Kill/Claeys regime to recruit or develop a legitimate Power 5 conference QB is the damning indictment of their failure.
I honestly question just how much damage they will do to Seth Green should they remain here. We need someone who take this program to the next level, sustained continual fighting for the B1G Conference Championship.
Or we can just be happy with whatever record we have in a half filled home stadium with no corporate support because season ticket sales are declining. And a coach who is paid as the 14th level salary in the B1G Conference.

Why did I vote C?
They beat the 8 teams with worse records.
Lost to the 4 teams with equal or better records.
The true meaning of average.

Really? One of the dumber items I have read here lately.
We are 7th in the big ten with 0 wins against the 6 in front of us.
If that's success, I guess we are successful.
F. So sick of mediocre.
Would you rather have that, or be last in the Big Ten with 0-1 wins against any Big Ten teams? People have short memories around here.
accept mediocrity
