What a clown!!!

Don't buy the Strib and don't click on any Reusse or Souhan articles. If you do, it only encourages advertisers to support these hacks to write their usual crap.

Having said this, I was told that Reusse weighed in on the NC issue and said nobody's business but Coach Kill's as it is his program to guide. If this is what he said, I agree. However, that dog has bitten the program so many times I won't chance reading any of his articles until someone tells me he has issued a statement of apology for decades of crap journalism.

Don't get me wrong, I can deal with constructive criticism but not their garbage. I know we're not a big number here but collectively we can cut into their numbers by not buying or clicking on their articles.

Go Gophers!

Ruesse blasted Kill and Teague for the decision. Ruesse also predicted a win over Purdue, which few did.

I disagree with some of the things Ruesse says/writes, but let's work with facts.

BTW would you like us to burn all the books also?

From a professional standpoint, this column shows a lot of laziness on the writer's part.

He not only did this in writing, but I am guessing that he the one that asked Kill the question during Kill's post game press conference.

Kill showed remarkable restraint and professionalism. I almost wish that he did not. The only reason that I say almost, is that I'm sure that Jerry does not want to go down to this idiot's level.

It's time that someone steps up and hits idiots like this back. This guy is a bully with a pen. The only way that I know to stop bully's is to fight back and hit hard.

100% correct.

The "Nelson better than Denard" comment is a textbook example of Jimmy basically admitting "well, I don't have many quotes or information to back up my argument, so I'll just add this in there to make it seem like my point is legitimate."

It's bascically the same thing as if I said in this post that his article was lazy and sucked because I saw Jimmy before the game and he seemed too interested in the media buffet and joking with the other columnists than actually covering the game - which was totally true, but in all honesty I have no idea if this affected his ability to cover the game properly or not.

He just keeps bringing the shots. Tweet from him this morning:

"Today's column, which has elicited much anger from Gophers fans. Both of them. http://tinyurl.com/8f639oc"

These columnists can get away with crud like this because the state's fan base acts the same way. These hacks would be laughed out of town in a market that actually liked their college football program.

These guys all try to be like ESPN's FIRST TAKE. One guy takes one side and one takes the other. If Reusse, Barreiro, and etc. all agreed, we wouldn't have two stations or opinions for that matter. Reusse has been 100% behind Kill on the Nelson decision.

With Reusse's stoutness, he is 100% behind everyone in the free world.

Some here would drop the final five words of your last sentence...

Then...in all honesty...doesn't that make them right? Don't get me wrong, Souhan is an asshat, but that's the narrative right there. They can mock the Gophers because almost everyone in this state mocks the Gophers.

It makes them lazy because they know they can get away with lazy columns. Take shots at the Gophers when it is deserved. I'm not so sheltered that I feel every column should praise for the struggling program, but this column is so out of place. The UNC debacle was deserved. It was a big deal (although a tad bit overblown). Souhan is just spewing garbage with this column. We held our biggest lead against a B1G opponent since Indiana in 2006, yet not even 6 hours after the game there is a column written by our very own Jim Souhan criticizing Kill's decision to play a freshmen QB 6 weeks too late. People act like Philip Nelson was a 5* once in a lifetime QB recruit for the Gophers. Philip Nelson was a 3* Quarterback who chose the Gophers over Wisconsin (probably because he didn't want to go to a power running school), therefore he is the greatest recruit of all time. FALSE. We would have been pissed if he started the year and struggled and we're pissed that we burned his redshirt (highly overrated). If this article isn't a crock then I don't know what is.

I wish Soupcan was the Gopher Football Coach so we could fire his ass and be rid of him once and for all.

But then again, he would become a FB analyst on BTN.

Nelson didn't have a Wisconsin offer. I don't know why people keep repeating this.

Anyway, I guess I misspoke. Of course it's a lazy article, and Souhan sucks. He just sucks. Reusse can write a really good column, but Souhan sucks.

My point, which really was just repeating what you already said, was that if this is what qualifies for journalism, it's really myopic to blame Souhan. He's just a *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# with a typewriter exploiting the cynicism and intellectual laziness of everyone in this state that reads his articles.

After all, this isn't Edward R Murrow we're talking about here. His job is to write stupid and pithy things for public consumption by sports fans.

I love Tommy Powers writing a letter to the NC athletic director asking for the game back

I stopped after the second paragraph. What a *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#. I say someone forward this thread to him as we collectively express our hate.

I agree with what you're saying, but I think that makes Souhan even worse. If a WI fan was blasting the U or someone that actually came to the opinion in a logical manner blasted the Gophers, that would be annoying but it wouldn't be as hack as Souhan's writing. Souhan is going whichever way the wind blows and writing an article because it's the path of least resistance. I agree though, it's part of a larger problem of the terrible relationship between the U and the average sports fan in the TC. However, when you put your name on something (even if you're just trying to appeal to the masses), you get the blame as well.

I'm willing to bet he has already skimmed through this thread.

For sure he has. That is what his tweet was about. Do you really think in the non-Gopherhole world there has been any backlash towards his article? It's from people like us and he knows about because he reads Gopherhole. It's obvious in Fat Pat and Souhan's tweets.

Notice how he wasn't intelligent enough to defend his article on a logical level so he goes to mocking the U? It's the equivelent of someone beating you in a debate and you saying "...well....well....you're ugly!". He's a moron.

A good coach tries to put players in positions to succeed. Kill had to determine whether spring and so far this fall if Nelson was ready. He evidently decided he was now ready. Guess he was right !! Get off his back.

What? That doesn't make any logical sense. Are you equating someone saying "I refuse to read his garbage" with a book burner? No one is saying that he shouldn't have the right to write his nonsense. He's telling people that if you don't like them, don't support them. It's a grossly different thing.

As far as Reusse, we can agree to disagree.

Even the Star Tribune comments are reeling in to him pretty good.

Oh, sure, blame Souhan. But also blame the broader sports culture which feeds that brainless bantering, because that's the bigger issue. I don't know if Souhan is an idiot in real life or not, but I do know that he is successful at writing idiotic articles for mass consumption.

I also don't care if he's critical of the U. Chip Scroggins and Doogie have both been pretty critical of the U, and I like most of what both of them write. There's plenty to criticize about the athletic department.

Souhan is just an idiot. But he's only a successful idiot because enough people either don't know the difference, or they don't care.

No. I just get irritated when some one babbles about what people should or shouldn't read/buy/click.

Tell me what you don't like, but don't tell me what I should do or buy.(that was my point).

The article was bad because Souhan did not even consider the possibility that Nelson was simply not ready to start from the beginning of the season. He could have been terrible in practice to start the season. Too inconsistent, whatever the case may be. He improved to the point where Kill finally had to pull the trigger and he did. The conclusion that Kill is bad at judging ability because he did not start him right away is ridiculous. Nobody would be able to logically make that conclusion unless they had seen every practice.

Yeah, that's pretty much my opinion too. Sure would like to know if he picked the Gophers over Purdue, or the other way around.

What bothered me most about this worthless article by a very emotionally disturbed and unstable man, were the alleged quotes from Jerry Kill included. Coach Kill should've looked right at Souhan and calmly said: "ya know Jim, if I didn't know anything about sports, coaching, athlete development and our Minnesota Golden Gopher football team, kinda like you, I might've come to the same conclusions you did. On second thought, I still probably wouldn't have come to that conclusion; it takes a real twisted, cynical and frankly, sick mind to reach the conclusions you did. Jim, let me ask you a question: what's wrong with you? Have you considered finding another profession? Jim, could you do us all a favor and please stay out of our locker room and stop attending our press conferences. You're truly a pariah to the University and the Twin Cities community."

Instead, Coach Kill actually affirmed Souhan's thinking. This really upsets me. I love the Gophers and root hard for Coach Kill, but I'm saddened and bothered by a lot of what Coach Kill says and doesn't say.

Can't agree with you here. I think the world has enough Jim Harbaugh's and Lane Kiffin's.

Good to have a coach who does not turn into a total Richard when challenged.

That would be insanely foolish of Coach Kill to pick a fight with a local writer. It was stupid of Brewster, and only served to validate Reusse and make Brewster look childish.

In 80% of cases I would agree with you. But in this case, it was such an egregious show of disrespect to Kill and a truly warped use of thinking and logic, that Kill would not have been hurt by a stern response. Of course, the response I suggested was too much of a personal attack, but he could've said just the first sentence I suggested and come out just fine. I respectfully disagree with your thinking. I believe people should stand up for themselves when attacked personally. On the other hand, I thought Coach Kill looked sort of foolish defending the decision about North Carolina. See, I would've been more humble about the NC deal, and more defensive with Souhan. Gotta pick n choose I guess.
