I think this is where all the conspiracies come in. Did replay talk to them at some point? Did someone sneak a peek? Did the guy replay it a few times in his head? Did another official play it in his head and feel it was off?

Two of these things shouldn't be happening.

This. Fleck and Smart couldn't be more different on the sidelines.

Wow. That’s just kinda crazy. I’d imagine there’s opportunity for even more “influence” exerted at the local levels for a number of reasons, and no real recourse or repercussions. Or, the guy literally needs an eye exam. Strikingly few officials seem to wear glasses in an age group where they are often very necessary…

“Hey I just want to warn you I can’t see very well”

It wasn’t a joke, he was serious.

The role / involvement of the replay boot his really weird at times.

I've seen what I feel like is a frequent scenario where there will be a scoring or borderline scoring play where the refs get together to talk about it for a while. It's a close call .... and they make their new call and actually reverse the original call. No shame in that.

The replay booth doesn't even ring in ... like replay guy, if they were that confused why not give them the benefit of a second look? If they're that unsure .... help them out.

Happened at the USC game where they initially ruled a gopher touchdown and then ruled him out of bounds. Maybe the right call but if you're all debating it, someone help them take a look!

I'm open to the possibility the replay guy did look and decided their corrected call was good, but that also doesn't explain the situations where it's a little less clear and they never ring in.

I feel like the replay guys are incentivized to NOT call for a replay, a little too much at times.

Fair and I actually agree. I have a great vantage from 211 and he is pretty solitary most of a game but am sure the headset is buzzing. That 10% balance though can be very animated, especially as he bounds to call a timeout or be in the face of an official, and TV of course focuses on the 10% more than the 90. But point taken. Ski U Mah.

SEC fined Texas and is making them investigate video to catch those responsible for throwing items. It's probably real.

Michigan Illinois, that guy spots the ball almost 5 yards ahead of where it should be. It took Bielema taking time out to get them to review it. It was like the review guy was asleep.

I think most of the issues are due how fast the replay people can get a review and determine to stop the game or not.

Indiana got hosed a on fumble in the game against Nebraska as Nebraska hurried to the line (Should be a red flag to officials and review team). Luckily the ball don't lie and Nebraska turned the ball over two plays later.

Yeah the replay guys seem slow, like they're watching some other game.

In person at the stadium I can see it when the ball comes lose, and a RB is running around telling people to quick get the play going .... you'd think the replay guy would be watching and sees the ball out and think "yeah that's weird ... I'm gonna push the button" sometimes.

It's almost like the replay guy is supposed to make the full call on his own first before he hits the buzzer.

Replay guys are almost too timid now. It might stink when we do a lot of them but at least we got a chance to get it more right, and when it is obvious refs aren't afraid to make it quick, look and pop back out and make the call fast.

Refs know what's important, keeping this game entertaining.

The call was pretty borderline.
 

When I started watching college football, every play was reviewed. After the play, as the players would be getting ready for the next play, the replay booth would watch and if necessary, buzz down to the officials to tell them to stop while the booth took a closer look.

Somehow in the race to make the game like the NFL, they gave up on this idea. And it actually worked way better than anything the NFL was doing for replay or lack thereof.

Yeah and on top of that Georgia ended up winning anyway so the situation didn't end up having a major affect on the final outcome.

But agree with those saying it is a bad look. They almost certainly saw the replay and realized it was a horrible call during the delay while all the fans were throwing crap on the field.

Very strange sequence for sure and had Texas ended up coming back and winning the game it would be really interesting to see the meltdown that would be taking place right now over how it all went down.

I support getting the call right more than following the letter of law.

I mean, unless the coach is standing right next to a ref, that's usually what happens when the TO is not planned, they have to run to the closest one and make sure they get their attention.

Maybe you get some but it's going to be a bit of an inexact science here.
 

So...I was at the Georgia-Texas game this past weekend (yeah, good for me!)

It was the damndest thing I've ever seen. The crowd was going bananas. You didn't have the good TV replay like I've seen now; all you really had was that there was some contact between the two.

There definitely was an extended delay while cleaning up the bottles corner, but that they switched the call, I think Smart had a right to be completely irate. They literally changed a call after a long delay that isn't reviewable.

I get it that the "right call was eventually made," but the mob won. Throw bottles on the field & a call got changed. Who knows what would have happened had more people chucked bottles at the Vikings-Cowboys Drew Pearson game.

Side note: I've never seen so many scantily clad women wearing cowboy boots in my life......

Yeah, I don't honestly know how they could bust people and be able to enforce it for future games but if they have a way of figuring out who it was and punishing them for it I am all for it. That kind of crap should never happen at a sporting event. Boo, be pissed but don't throw crap on the field.
