Week 7 Other Games Thread

OSU doing work against Illinois in Champaign. They're on another level.

Before every lines up to talk about the refs being on OSU's side, its worth noting on that third down completion that came back, it sure looked like the Illinois defender was grabbing the OSU receiver's arm before the ball arrived and it went uncalled.

Having to watch valentine get his lower leg bent at at 30 degree angle in slow mo is not desirable

AK has ability but lacks the intangibles you need at QB. He can put up impressive numbers but when the pressure is on and you need him to lead your team to victory he falls flat way more often then he succeeds.
I don't think the loss is on AK. He isn't perfect, but he played a pretty good game--including running for TDs. Iowa wins because it plays all three phases of the game, including special teams. Iowa started the game with a 103 yard KO return for a TD (receiver took the kick three yards deep in end zone). Iowa had a 50 yard punt return. And Iowa blocked a very makable filed goal attempt. Haven't looked a field position yet, but I'll bet Iowa was competitive there too. If PJ ever found a coach who could make the Gophers special teams an asset rather than a liability--one that just helped us win the field position battle and could kick a 45 yard FG--he might win a game a game or two this year that instead end up as frustrating losses.

PJ appears to model on Tressell and Franklin, but those coaches play or played with roster strength and depth PJ will never have at Minnesota. Might work a bit better if PJ modeled his O and D on Cignetti (who plays with a roster we theoretically could match), and on Captain Kirk for special teams.

Michigan State was favored against UCLA. But UCLA is up 17-7 in the 2nd quarter. Amazing what a change in coaches (and a change in coaching/game plan philosophy?) can do with the same roster ...
UCLA up on Michigan State 24-7 at the half. Michigan State was a 7.5 favorite in Vegas (same spread as Gophs are over Purdue). UCLA started 0-4 under original coach this season, with losses against inferior opponents. Now has a new, interim coach. Result? Beats Penn State(!) and appears on the way to boxing Michigan State's ears. Same roster. Completely different team. Coaches matter. Game plans matter.

I don't pin the loss/losses on AK but he shown time and time again that he isn't a guy who can lead his team to victory when the chips are down. They put up a lot of points in the first half but when things tighten up in the second half they have fallen apart in multiple games.

It is if you impede the wr. He grabs his hand/entire left arm
No, those are two different things. If you think they missed a DPI, that’s one thing, but face guarding is not a penalty.

Iit may lower the threshold of calling DPI, since the DB is not considered to have an equal right to the ball.

More referring to it as the what made it notable of memory, not that the face guarding was the penalty
