No votes for the Gophers. A little frustrating given that a whole bunch of 1 loss teams and even a few 2 loss teams got them. Many of those teams do not have a P5 or a road win, nor a loss nearly as good as Ohio State. A few resumes considered superior:

Tennessee - def Bowling Green and FCS TN Tech, lost at home to Pitt (who lost to Western MI)
Louisiana - def FCS Nicholls State by 3 and Ohio U, lost by 3 TD to unranked Texas
Arizona St - def FCS Southern Utah and UNLV, lost to BYU
Miami - 2 losses by at least 3 TDs and 2 pt win over App State
Iowa State - def FCS Northern Iowa in last seconds and UNLV, blown out at home by Iowa

Thinking it may take 7-1 or even 8-1 to get this team ranked. Long way to go.

These polls are meaningless and for the most part are not based on reality.
The problem is once a pollster puts down his/her rankings at the start of the year said pollster is loath to admit he/she was very wrong and rarely changes.
The initial polls were very wrong.

When we play the comparison game week to week, it shows that no two teams are alike, no two games are alike, and these are 17-24 year olds that are unpredictable.

Every team seems to have a game on their schedule already that the result was not expected. 10 weeks to go.

The Louisiana one is the one that gets me.

See what they did in the polls last year with a resume superior to Iowa state.

and now this year with a horrible resume.

And they’re Louisiana. There is no pro Louisiana conspiracy.

The only thing holding them back last year is confirmation bias towards preseason opinion. The only thing holding them up this year is confirmation bias towards preseason ranking.

not worth looking at polls until week 6
Any poll with any courage wouldn’t publish a poll until week 6.

For how much hate these polls get and how wrong and stupid they are per posters…you all seem to care a lot. Win a bunch of games and you’ll be ranked. Pretty simple

Inertia is a big thing. If you start ranked pre-season, it takes a lot to get dropped totally out of the top 25. The polls will shake up during the year. Because of last year’s record, we have to work our way back in. If we beat Purdue, Nebraska and Maryland (our next Big Ten opponents), we should get ranked. If we lose to one, who knows?

It is a little frustrating that A&M is ranked so high and barely squeezed by the bufs 10-7. We beat them on the road 30-0 outgain them by near 400 yards and don’t get a single vote?
Seems a little questionable.
U$C goes from an embarrassing loss, to firing their coach and zero votes, to going to Pullman, winning big and getting 16 votes.

Even Jimbo has been saying his A&M team hasn't been playing as well as they should.

I'm sure he is a little concerned that ranking is getting to his player's heads.

We'll see if they can handle Arkansas next week...

So, a team that got blown out by a weakend tOSU who barely managed to beat Tulsa, struggled to beat a less than pedestrian Miami of Ohio. Who had a very nice win yesterday against a team that is making PJ Fleck's attempts to not play offense in 2017 look like Alabama circa 2020 should be taken seriously at this point?

What do you expect? Seriously? Their starting QB has 254 yards passing. In three games. They've managed 433 yards rushing. In three games. They're averaging 91 yards passing per game and 144 yards rushing per game. Even though we held them to significantly below their average, it's not as if we held Ole' Miss to under 75 yards of offense. Then, we might get some love.

It really doesn't matter what they are ranked right now. It will matter in 9 weeks where they are ranked.

Up next is a pillow fight against Bowling Green. Let's see if we can put them away in the second half unlike how poorly the team played in the second half against Miami of Ohio.

Then we play Purdue, the first team since tOSU that at least has a pulse so that will be a good win, might start to get some votes, but assuming they beat Illinois next week, their best win will be against Oregon State - whose best win is against Hawaii (assuming OSU loses to USC).

Then we play Nebraska. Aside from this past weekends game, one of the biggest underperforming teams in the FBS. And they lost to Illinois.

Then we play Maryland. A team that has what looks like a good win against W. Virginia - at least after this weekend, but struggled to beat Illinois.

Then we play Northwestern. who so far has beaten Indiana State!

Then we play Illinois. Who beat Nebraska, but lost to UTSA.

Then we play Iowa. If we beat Iowa, then we will be ranked. I'm hoping we can just avoid a third year in a row with an unsportsmanlike penally from the head coach in this game. but yeah, win this game, and we'll be taken seriously.

Then we play Indiana, which won't help us.

Then we play Wisconsin which should help us.

So, yeah. We might be 9-1 before we crack the top 25, and quite honestly, that's probably right if the season continues to unfold the way it has for the teams we play and we win all of those games.

Again, it does not matter where we're ranked on September 19. I care where we'll be ranked on November 28. Beat Iowa and Wisconsin, we'll have something to talk about. Even if we can't find a way to beat the Might Maryland Terrapins, again.

Wait.....14 points is a blow out? And what makes Miami (Ohio) "less than pedestrian"? They've been one of the better MAC teams the past couple of years.....and in their opener against a top ten team.....their starting QB was out. Those two points say all we need to know about the rest of the novel that you wrote.

Fact is that.....what.....19 ranked teams have lost so far? The Gophers have a single loss to a top ten team. And there have been several top 25 teams that have early season struggles against G5 teams. A win against BG isn't going to provide any ammo.....but there's ZERO question that the absolute drubbing of Colorado should have garnered a little bit of attention.

I'd expect to receive votes at 3-1 and be pushing Top 25 at 4-1, should we get to those marks. Lots of weak performances from ranked teams.

Until it doesn't happen, Ohio St is the favorite to win the conf. And Miami OH has a very good chance to win the MAC.

TN, LA, and Miami getting votes and Minnesota not kind of makes the voters look like a joke.

So your saying if we are 9-1 going into the Iowa game and we happen to win Floyd. (That’s the name of the traveling pig trophy.) You believe THEN WE WILL BE RANKED.
Are you sure?
Your quite certain a 9-1 B1G Ten team won’t be ranked till they beat Iowa?
Well, i guess we better hope the Hawkeyes don’t lose before we get our chance.

This sure is a lot of run-on sentences for something that does not matter.

First chance will be if Gophs are 4-1, I think they for sure are at 5-1.
