Week 0 Other Games Thread

Randomly & fondly remembering the ‘89 season (not the OSU meltdown) which began and ended with road wins at Iowa State and Iowa. Basketball team did its part sweeping Iowa and beating Northern Iowa in the NCAA tournament. (For good measure there was also a basketball win at Kansas State—with Walter Bond playing the game of his life.)

So excited! Crazy it's already been a few years since the Ireland game where Nebraska went for an onside kick when it had the lead against Northwestern. That was a fun postgame show to listen to after.
I have a friend who will be at the ISU-KSU game in Dublin.

I didn't see this thread earlier, but I found out about the Wildcat-Cyclone throwdown in Dublin by arriving at MSP Terminal 1 at the exact same time at the Iowa St Marching Band just a few minutes ago.

We're flying in opposite directions.

Does Kansas disappoint again this year and reveal that their nice little resurgence ago was a fluke?

Whenever I see Iowa State, I think "there's no way they should be a better program/team than us"

I miss late nights at home watching crazy Hawaii games at Aloha stadium.

So do I. Jim Laehey at the mic saying in his sort of monotone voice, "And that is a, touch...down." Those were the days.

Iowa State sends its band to Ireland meanwhile Iowa City and Madison are beyond the reach of the Minnesota band.

It’s not obvious to me that they are.

I'm going to miss that, but headed to Ireland with my wife in less than 3 weeks.

Very excited.

And no, not going to be there for the Vikings game, and even if we were going to be there, I wouldn't want to waste that much valuable time in Dublin with so many things to see for the first time.

Final AP rankings from 2021-2024?

(I don't have the answer handy ... genuinely curious what it is)

EDIT: well, these links are handy

They only mention strict top 25, not the extended version where you go through "also receiving votes". Of those four years, only ISU made it, last year ending at #15
