Godddd, Weber puts up some yardage against prevent D in a 23-point outing, and loss, to a MAC team. Wow, what a f'ing stud!
No one here EVER said that Weber is the Gophers ONLY problem - but he IS a problem. The QB is the most important person on a football team. He is also a captain, and he's supposed to lead. He doesn't do either. And I've already gone over his deficiencies as a QB (as have plenty of others) before, let's not go there again; but needless to say, he does not excell in any single skill set as a QB, including and certainly not limited to turnovers.
Weber got the raw end of the deal after he came back from knee injury - the coaches prevented him from doing ANYTHING. I don't think that was his fault. But at some point, if he didn't like it, then it was up to him to speak up. If he didn't care, then he is indeed a problem. My guess is that he too feels like he no longer has the ability to move like he did as a freshman. And because of that, he is a liability at the most important position we have on the team.
Now, do we have any other QB that could outperform Weber? Who the hell knows - no one else ever gets a chance. But loss after loss, turnover after turnover, stalled drive after stalled drive, overthrow after underthrow, there comes a point when you HAVE to try something else. The Gophers obviously have a loser's mentality with Weber starting at QB. So change it up and see if a spark doesn't happen.
Weber seems like and probably is a good kid. That doesn't make him a winning football player, and doesn't help the football team win games.
By the way, in Penn State's down years the past decade, they started two horrific quarterbacks: Matt Seneca and Adam Morelli. Was it simply coincidence that when Morelli finally graduated, such that JoePa could start a gentleman by the name of Michael Robinson that Penn State rallied together and finally became a good team again?
