We are paying the price for poor recruiting (2005-2007)

don't forget Lipscomb. He's still intent on being a gopher.

Let's hope so, because if Bennett, Eskridge, and Whaley are still our top 3 backs in 2011 we will be in trouble. Luckily Brew recognizes the need for an above average RB to pair with our (hopefully by then) improved OL.

Realistic? Blaming Mason?

Most of the losers on this board were optimistic prior to the season. When things fall apart, they go back to blaming Mason.

There may be some of that, but some of us have been saying for a long time that this team does have some young talent and spotty Junior/Senior talent. You win BCS games with experienced, talented players and with depth. The Gophers will get there.

Our RB situation went to hell in a handbasket when Russell decided that going to class was an optional activity. Pinnix, Bennett, et al either got injured or couldn't compare with Maroney & Barber (granted, we were spoiled for a couple of years). Mason lucked out landing those two, although some of the asst. coaches probably deserved most of the credit. Glen looked at recruiting as outside of his job description, but one thing he could do is coach marginal (or overlooked) talent into an effective OL. Which is something we certainly don't have on this team. Maybe Weber would have had more time to throw on Saturday if our O-linemen had been diving at Wisconsins' players' knees? Opponents bitched about Mason's cut-blocking techniques, but it allowed our MAC level OL talent to play with the big boys

Without going into too much detail, many of the Gopher players recruited 3-5 years ago were not-so-subtly shown the door. This coaching tactic is not unique to Brewster, as other coaches have done their version of 'scorched earth' when coming in to 'clean up' a given program.

It is rather intuitive that Brewster's predecessors, (Mason, Wacker, Gutey, Holtz, Salem---for his 1st 3 years only) did more with what they had...and in some cases, far more.

The same can be said for many of Brewster's contemporaries...Ferentz; Bielema---to a slightly lesser degree, Zook---for 3rd year only:D
Mark Mangino, Gary Pinkel, and so on

While I don't know why I am going to indulge you in this converstation, I'll just point out that Brewster had a typical Mason year in his 2nd year on campus.
