WCCO: Source: Gophers Express Interest In Rich Pitino

This could be a disaster. IF his name wasn't pitino , which among you would be as impressed as you are because his name is pitino. This norwood is running the risk of turning into a Brewster kind of situation.

new norwood is to hiring a basketball coach what brewball was to opening a new football stadium....

"This norwood" or "our new norwood" isn't hiring Flip.

The more I read about the kid (he is a kid to me only 2 years older than my oldest), the more I'm intrigued.

That being said, hasn't his dad said he was retiring after next season? I would be concerned this is just a stepping stone to move into the Louisville job.

I am Minnesotan, therefore I am more worried about how fast he is stolen away than I am optimistic of him having success here. In a perfect Minnesotan world, not only will he be a bomb here, but he will be hired away after one or two seasons leaving us with an even worse coach.

:)

AS you know, during our secret Booster meeting, we consulted with "richmondinsider and Donny" and found out that they were okay with this hire so we gave NT the go ahead to make the hire. Trying to tie up all loose ends in one post. In all seriousness, looking at the link from team stats and the bio, lineage and the training background I would be okay with this hire.

+1. I hope he has enough success here that he's in demand at other schools, if he is indeed the guy.

Intriguing Topic, this one. Now, in reply to you, 07, if he has enough success that he becomes "in demand", the Contract will have a "buyout to resign" clause of so many millions of dollars that other schools will not touch it.

@tompowerspp: Florida International's Rich Pitino has trait most coveted right now by Gopher administration, and that is: He's unlikely to turn them down.

Go Gophers!!

He's young and inexperienced enough that he might be willing to accept the Teague-mandated seven Villa 7 "co-coaches." :D

That's what I'm afraid of. I'm very concerned that Teague/Ellis's ego is driving this.

But if we're going the 'assistant' route, I'd put him at the top of the list. One year at FIU is better than nothing. Still he's basically gone from Daddy's staff, to adopted Big Brother Billy's staff and back to Daddy's staff. To say he didn't benefit from his family connections is laughable. But daddy and big brother are two of the best coaches around. Then again, so is Mike Shanahan...

Is anyone else listening to kfan right now? Common and Tenna B sound just plain dumb. They are on a 30 minute rant about how the Gophers next head coach is going to be RicK Pitino. A caller just bursted their bubbles!!! HAHAHAHAH and told them Richard Pitino was his son!

Wake me up in 20 years when the entire news media in the Twin Cities has died.

That is part of Common's shtick.

I think if his name wasn't Pitino, he would be pretty similar to Enfield. . .

And who is Enfield without the hot wife?

You may have been hook, line, and sinkered by them sir.

I know what Common does, but it really sounded like he thought it was Rick. He tricked me I guess because it was a 5 minutes rant it was a good 30 minute rant on Rick Pitino. Oh well.

How much do you weigh?

Put an extra strong buyout in. If he leaves for the Louisville job, they must pay for our practice facility.

Worrying about a coach leaving because he's too successful here is a luxury we haven't had in awhile.

Exactly, last weekend I was talking with some of my Gopher friends and I told them "wouldn't it be nice to have to replace a coach because of success instead of failure for once?" And they all quickly nodded.

Seriously. It's unbelievable.

Yeah, especially when it comes to college sports. They are clueless in general, but when it comes to college sports, I don't think many of them pay attention at all. I'm not even talking about the Gophers, I'm talking about in general.

I'm not listening but know it is one of their bits. They get listeners riled up then take a call, play dumb, then ask the caller how much they weigh, and play the sound of a fish being reeled in.

Good find. This guy knows how to message. I'd get behind this hire. I love his playing style; just like his dad.

The video did not show him drilling even one player in the head with a ball. NEXT!

If I were him, I wouldn't want to stay in my father's shadows either. I'm not saying that MN would be my ultimate destination if I were him, but I think I would avoid places where my father was an absolute legend. You no longer are judged on whether or not you're a good coach, it becomes whether or not you're as good as a legend.

:)

So he comes in and wins 8 B1G games the first year and 13 B1G games the second and the gets swooped up by Louisville. Yeah. Terrible problem to have.
