Nice. Welcome aboard!

I really see him more as a strong side DE and not a DT.

We need depth on the DL after all the turnover this offseason. Not sure how someone who has played SEC games can be seen as a "reach", but if anyone has earned our trust on player evaluations/recruiting lately, it's Chad Wilt.
It's clearly not a reach. He is pretty comparable to MJ Anderson. Surgers has two seasons and Anderson has three but Surgers has been more productive. They are both big strong side DEs who would be (at a minimum) quality depth at a position that needs it.

MJ Anderson (2021 stats)
7 tackles 1 sack 2 PD

Lorenzo Surgers (2021 stats)
17 tackels 1 sack 2 PD

Any idea how many years of eligibility he has left? 2 or 3?

Had the 4th most tackles (3rd most solo) of the defensive lineman at Vandy last year. Not sure what that means but he must have seen pretty regular action in the SEC. As such, at worst, it adds decent depth.

He started 8 games for them.

Yeah, we have had a pretty nice track record of bringing in defensive players through the portal. Think the staff has earned the benefit of the doubt after Williamson, St. Juste, Gibbens, Pinckney, MDT....

Sarcasm? Vandy is rated 28th academically while UM is 54th.

I think he was being silly.

Academic rankings rankings, there's context. If you take a larger swatch of students / have a wider range of academics, things will start to level out... just naturally.

I've spent a day on the Vandy campus...nice but nothing overwhelmingly great. I think the U's facilities are as good or better in a lot of respects. Nice school in a fun town though.

Vandys facilities for athletics are very poor for a P5. They are working on updating everything but the school only cares about academics, baseball & woman’s bowling

Really good add. Doesn’t jump off the page, but pretty nice to add an experienced guy with multiple years left. Pretty tough to add an instant impact guy at DE from the high school ranks. I am excited to see who steps up next year as I do think we have a lot of young talent.

I should have clarified, I was talking about academic facilities.

More competition in the defensive backfield. Let's see some of the players from the last two recruiting classes break out. Some of the developmental guys on defense must be ready.

We're converting him to safety? Bold strategy, Cotton.
