People that have the kind of big money to throw around at NIL for fun want to bet on winning horses. It is an ego thing, and something they can brag about at parties or on the golf course. They do not want to support a dud and have their contemporaries mocking them for trying to back a loser.Part of the NIL commitment is also on the head coach. When you're an executive, sales is 100% part of your job.
Yep. They want to associate their spend with winning and they want to be able to feel like they influenced and made a difference in the decision. If you just pick a coach and then start asking people to help, that might not work. I am guessing that this approach might be a little too much for the elites in our administration to take...a blow to their egos.People that have the kind of big money to throw around at NIL for fun want to bet on winning horses. Execs that aren't good at sales don't stay execs for long. If they can't rally investors to the cause and project an image of confidence and competence, they simply will not last. What we saw the other night against North Texas was an organization in disarray, with no identity and seemingly no path towards getting one.
Those guys do nothing for me personally. Are they better than CBJ, obviously. I'm all in on HR swings. Will Wade Bryce Drew, or Drew Valentine.Sundance Wicks from wyoming would be my guy!, Next in line would be Medved from Colorado State, or Jacobson from Northern Iowa
I've been advocating for leaving the Big Ten. We will NEVER be competitive here. No, Dutcher would NOT be competitive in the Big Ten.
Dutcher had ONE great year. BEFORE unlimited free agency. If he was here, he couldn't keep a team together. If the Gophers were in the Mountain West last year...we'd have made the Sweet-16 too...San Diego State beat UAB and Yale before getting routed by 30 by UCONN.
They have an interesting couple weeks coming up. Besides playing Gonzaga, SDSU is at Creighton, hosting Oregon and at Texas A&M.One great year? In his seven seasons as a head coach, he has two seasons of winning 30+ games and his other five seasons have been 21+ wins. He was in the Sweet 16 last year and in the National Championship game the season before that. He has won three conference titles in a tough league and never missed an NCAA Tourney.
It'll be interesting to see how "easy" it will be for the Gophers to beat Yale this weekend. UAB is picked ahead of North Texas in that league, so maybe beating UAB isn't as easy as you think, either.
Up and coming.I stand corrected. What I was trying to say is that he was an assistant at another school and had some success. Sometimes such coaches are considered for bigger roles such as the one coach Johnson is currently in. I was defending a possible thought consideration that AD Coyle may have had.
I felt that saying he was just a DEI hire dismissed other potential reasons for giving him a look. Ben Johnson - Xavier
It's easy to point out 1 or 2 (out of 300) miracle teams every year and say "See...the Gophers should have a coach like that."You are truly delusional. How I would love to lose to the #1 team in the country in the Sweet 16, even in a rout. We're so far from that it's not even funny. So, he did pretty well last year, even in "free agency".
They host the Zags Monday. No idea, but bet it's a competitive game. Wouldn't it be fun to watch a game like that at Williams Arena.
Maybe not, but I guarantee the teams he puts together and the players he brings in will be much better than what we are doingIt's easy to point out 1 or 2 (out of 300) miracle teams every year and say "See...the Gophers should have a coach like that."
But that's totally delusional. I already said we can have a miracle season once every 30-40 years.
With free agency now, Dutcher will never be able to keep a team together either.
Preposterous statement of the year award......LMAOI've been advocating for leaving the Big Ten. We will NEVER be competitive here. No, Dutcher would NOT be competitive in the Big Ten.

Fans in Iowa are already trying to shove McCaffrey out the front door to land him (he was born in Iowa City)One guy i might put in front of the Medved for the upcoming coaching hire.
Ben McCullum guy knows how to win.
