Don't be surprised when it falls flat.
So psyched that they’re finally doing something like this.
Ah, the classic Minnesota pessimism.Don't be surprised when it falls flat.
Perhaps it won't be as good as we would like it to be. It will get better each year. What particularly helps in a situation like this is for the fans to be more positive about an attempt to do something good.Don't be surprised when it falls flat.
I totally get where Tikited is coming from, but it's also worth giving it a try.Ah, the classic Minnesota pessimism.
Saw plenty of people saying the same thing about the Penn State “Maroon Out”, and that turned out looking great. All it takes is good marketing from the athletic department and a bit of word-of-mouth. If you get ~75% of people to do their part, it will still look good.
Exactly. Keep doing it every year (preferably when it's warm(er)) since it seems a lot of cold/rain gear is maroon) and it will become better and better. You can't do it once every 5 or 10 years and expect it to work well.Perhaps it won't be as good as we would like it to be. It will get better each year. Ya the key is to do it every year. Make the homecoming game known as the stripe out.Perhaps it won't be as good as we would like it to be. It will get better each year. What particularly helps in a situation like this is for the fans to be more positive about an attempt to do something good.
Well said. Have to start somewhere. Hopefully we’ll get some good fall weather to start October, but their hands were kind of tied with no solid home games earlier than that. I do remember that the Penn State game was supposed to be pretty cold, so I was expecting minimal maroon out there. I think the sun came out unexpectedly and made it very comfortable.Exactly. People who don't participate this year, might be like damn, that was cool...I better buy a gold shirt for next year...hopefully it just keeps improving yearly.
I think you are confusing pessimism with realism.Ah, the classic Minnesota pessimism.

All good if they are wearing Maroon color boxers (or Gold depending on whatever section the have purchased tickets).Ya the key is to do it every year. Make the homecoming game known as the stripe out.
Then maybe the people who didn’t know any better this time won’t be caught with their pants down the next time.
I hope you are right, but I've seen this movie before. I will do my part.Ah, the classic Minnesota pessimism.

I do my part. It's everyone else... Kidding.Perhaps it won't be as good as we would like it to be. It will get better each year. What particularly helps in a situation like this is for the fans to be more positive about an attempt to do something good.
Yeah, kind of like the alcohol at church dinners. They couldn't sell you a drink since they didn't have a liquor license, so they'd get alcohol donated from the local bars and then "give" you a drink in "exchange" for you dropping a buck or two into some collection bowl.I think you are confusing pessimism with realism.
If they want it to work, then find a sponsor to give everyone a shirt with the appropriate color code.
Brilliant! But if ... they don't do it next year, it'll be tough to catch on.
I'll admit that part my post is not up there with the Pulitzer-worthy posts of insults that you write.Brilliant!
Personally, I am grateful for whatever fans shell out their good money as well as allocate their time to attend the game and cheer on the Gophers to really be concerned with what they are wearing.Yeah, kind of like the alcohol at church dinners. Do the same here. Get 50,000 shirts printed out and "give" them to people who need one, in "exchange" for them donating a dollar or two.
If they do this every year, I bet it will catch on no matter what. But if it bombs this year and they don't do it next year, it'll be tough to catch on.
I dig it. A few teams, especially in the BIG, already do the stripe-out. Never seen this before.I love this and I hope it works. I think you would have greater success if you just made the lower bowl maroon and the upper bowl gold. Sometimes people just can't figure things out.
Thank you. My God, can't believe how put out some people are about being asked to wear something gold (or maroon) to support the team and game experience.
Maybe they could give out gold pinnies, the pull-over jersey like shirt worn in sports scrimmages. Then fans that need them can just wear it over the shirts they wear to the game. They also cost very little.Get a sponsor and have a free tshirt giveaway waiting on every seat
It will work for sure if they give away free shirts
I am just gonna spray paint my whole body. I might have extra maroon paint if ya want?Maybe they could give out gold pinnies, the pull-over jersey like shirt worn in sports scrimmages. Then fans that need them can just wear it over the shirts they wear to the game. They also cost very little.
Sometimes even the players don't wear maroon and gold!Thank you. My God, can't believe how put out some people are about being asked to wear something gold (or maroon) to support the team and game experience.
Thank god they have you to help.Don't be surprised when it falls flat.
Make that three. There are two elephants in this room. The spotty history of “gold outs” is the more obvious problem. People don’t tend to have gear with gold as the main color and Minnesotans don’t like to be told what to do.
The other elephant is attendance. Color coordinated plans tend to lose their impact when there are a lot of empty seats. That aspect might look even worse with a striping plan. Does the homecoming game have a shot at a sellout?
