They still need coordinatorsSo you are telling us PJ is no longer in the running? Or like they say in Dumb & Dumber "He still has a chance?"
They interviewed/contacted 11 candidates, "Many were sitting HC's" but landed on Foster. This likely means they didn't have the funds/stability to pull a sitting HC.So you are telling us PJ is no longer in the running? Or like they say in Dumb & Dumber "He still has a chance?"
I don’t think that necessarily shows that they were interested interested in Fleck. But I don’t think it’s laughable that they might’ve been interested.People thought it was laughable that UCLA might be interest in PJ yet they end up hiring a guy with no HC experience.
I have my doubts that UCLA administration is really willing to pay / play at the level ... people expect.People thought it was laughable that UCLA might be interest in PJ yet they end up hiring a guy with no HC experience.
"I'll drink to that".Foster Brooks!
Amazing hire!
They're waiting for the B1G checks to start clearing.I have my doubts that UCLA administration is really willing to pay / play at the level ... people expect.
They might be in a hole by then, duno...They're waiting for the B1G checks to start clearing.
Agreed, this doesn't automatically imply that PJ had any sort of offer or anything close to it, but a lot of people thought it was ridiculous that UCLA would look at a guy like PJ.I don’t think that necessarily shows that they were interested interested in Fleck. But I don’t think it’s laughable that they might’ve been interested.
I think the college football fan world just doesn't realize UCLA administration ... just might not care.Agreed, this doesn't automatically imply that PJ had any sort of offer or anything close to it, but a lot of people thought it was ridiculous that UCLA would look at a guy like PJ.
I got that *burrrp* I got that reference.Foster Brooks!
Amazing hire!
Proof that politicians used to have a sense of humor."I'll drink to that".
n 2012, he joined Jim L. Mora's staff at UCLA as a volunteer assistant, before becoming a graduate assistant the following year. In 2015, he became the program's director of player development and high school relations.
In 2016, he left UCLA and joined Texas Tech as its running backs coach under Kliff Kingsbury. On January 21, 2017, he returned to UCLA, serving in the same role on Chip Kelly's initial staff.
On February 12, 2024, ten days after being hired as the running backs coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, Foster was named head football coach at UCLA, replacing Kelly
Seems like a safe play by the AD. Hometown guy, UCLA HOF member, solid pro career, and experienced with the program. He must've shown he makes up for his lack of experience in other areas. Have to imagine one of those areas is the fact that his resume demands less pay than an established HC.I don't consider UCLA to be a top program anymore but for arguments sake I'll call them that ... for this post.
As far as a big program goes this has to be one of the weakest resume hires to a program like that in recent memory right?
Like THAT'S IT....
You mean like his lack of experience in ... everything?Seems like a safe play by the AD. Hometown guy, UCLA HOF member, solid pro career, and experienced with the program. He must've shown he makes up for his lack of experience in other areas. Have to imagine one of those areas is the fact that his resume demands less pay than an established HC.
Does he have no recruiting experience? Has he not been working in college football for a decade? Does he have no experience working with the players and coaches in the program? You mean like his lack of experience in ... everything?
This doesn't really seem like a terrible hire. It's not flashy, it's not groundbreaking, but it's a safe hire in that it promotes continuity in the program (especially with the timing of Kelly leaving), and promoting a coach on staff is pretty common.Does he have no recruiting experience? Has he not been working in college football for a decade? Does he have no experience working with the players and coaches in the program?
If you think there is no overlap between being a college coach, and being a college HEAD coach, then yes I guess he has no experience in anything,
UCLA should've just hired you Slab. Same amount of experience.
That's a great way to look at it.UCLA isn’t a great job.
It is a Cal Level job with USC level expectations.
USC can’t even handle having USC expectations
That's you're argument for this guy to be a head coach of a P5 program?Does he have no recruiting experience? Has he not been working in college football for a decade? Does he have no experience working with the players and coaches in the program?

I agree. My first comment was that it seems like a safe hire. This doesn't really seem like a terrible hire. It's not flashy, it's not groundbreaking, but it's a safe hire in that it promotes continuity in the program (especially with the timing of Kelly leaving), and promoting a coach on staff is pretty common.
My argument was that it's a safe hire to which you commented on his "lack of experience in ... everything?"That's you're argument for this guy to be a head coach of a P5 program?
Any experience doing anything related to CFB?
