UCLA hires Foster

Second link is not SI, once again “FanNation”, and does literally nothing other than point right back to your first link.

Your first link is 247 clickbait trash. A person making S up with “sources say”. Oh wait sorry, “close sources say”.

They were never going to fire him.

You just run with a trashy rumor and pretend it’s truth.

That said, it is still odd to leave in Feb. But the opportunity was odd timing.

He’s essentially doing exactly the same thing that Kiffin did, using Alabama’s OC spot to rehab his career. Staying at UCLA and trying to win in the Big Ten is going to be much tougher sledding than winning in the PAC 12 as it was.

Take this for whatever this is worth, but on Conf Championship Saturday I was watching SEC Championship in a Vegas Sportsbook. Open seat to my left and a guy from Bakersfield, CA just happened to sit by me and started chatting me up in a hyper friendly type manner (very polite though, so not a bother). Guy was a football freak who made the drive up for the PAC 12 Championship the night before.

He was mid-60s and retired but still a Def Coordinator (& Wrestling coach) at a Bakersfield HS that has sent several players D1 including to UCLA. Because of that he goes to several Bruins games, which I found interesting and he offered his thoughts should I make a road trip. He was also super curious about Minnesota HS football as well as small colleges. I digress.

Anyway, he was absolutely shocked that Kelly had survived given all the buzz that he was going to be goner to the point everyone in his circles thought it was a done deal. He stated flat out the Trojan game gave Kelly a stay of execution and remained on incredibly thin ice.

Yeah well espn ran it on their ticker because that the place I saw it in Jan.

But okay. You go ahead and think what you want to think. You do anyways.

Yup. It was pretty obvious he was on the chopping block but wasn’t decided…someone in the administration ran their mouth before it was finalized…but then beating UsC and the final decision was to keep him.

Regardless, the leaks from the administration office did enough damage for him to openly pursue and accept an Oc job.

It’s fine if people don’t think that’s why chip kelly left, but it was. The reason he would take a demotion is because he thinks it’s a good opportunity when he is 50/50 to keep his job next year anyways.

It wasn’t as public, but Boston College coach leaving is really similar.
Could’ve gone back as Hc of Boston college, but leaving to be an nfl assistant means he never had to get fired and already has his next gig lined up when he is not unemployed. He chose stability over being a Hc too

Appreciate the reply.

Fan buzz is fan buzz. It can be self reinforcing. You know this, as much as any GH poster does. Someone posts X, other posters agree, and it automatically becomes inducted as "truth" around here. When people who know the real truth snicker at how far off it is.

Harbaugh was going to be fired from Michigan. Went 8-5 in 2017 including 4th in East and lost Outback bowl.

Until he wasn't, and then won a natty.

Says "your memory"
I remember it running on either/both the ESPN/Fox tickers as well, to the point that I was surprised Kelly was retained, and had to be told by this fella from Bakersfield otherwise.

Note, my Bakersfield guy was just a college football fan in general not of UCLA, plugged in somewhat as a HS Asst Coach.

Sure, Kelly could have survived even longer if UCLA had he stayed and had a decent 2024.

What it?

They wouldn't run "some guy on some 247 site says 'close sources say' ..."

That's lame af
It doesn’t matter what happened. You will just continue to Live in your own reality!

Yup. And now their coach quit to be OC at Ohio state. Pure coincidence
Any coach who has ever left to take any other position, only ever did so because he feared being fired.

That is some kind of fake take

Yes. But extend what I said to include basketball.

Now if I was coaching a women's country club sport, sign me up!
I thought you only meant football.

And if you coached a women's country club sport in the UC system, Aunt Becky from Full House would slip you a couple hundred thousand under the table to get her unqualified daughter into school.

Any Head Coach that has ever left for a Coordinator position in the same Conference, I can unequivocally state, did so because he feared being fired.

Ohio State and UCLA aren't in the same conference.

Won't be until later this summer.

And again, just making up what you want to be true.

Actual truth is that he's literally just doing what Kiffin did, except with no firing anywhere near.

UCLA never intended to fire Kelly.

That's reality
No one will ever know, but it was everywhere on the scrolls around the USC game and then it didn't happen. And then it continued to not happen... they won their bowl and then his name started popping for all these other coordinator jobs in College and NFL. There was definitely smoke and he saw the writing on the wall. His buyout dopped from $8.5M to $4.27M after the season. I think the AD knew Kelly was going to find his own way out of the situation.

That’s not anything about being fired or even close.

Maybe he has decided he just wants to be an offensive X&O’s guru somewhere and not have to deal with all the NIL horse manure. That could be the reality, that he was looking for an OC spot for that reason.
