Per the U of MN:

University of Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill suffered what Gophers team doctor Pat Smith described as a reoccurrence of a seizure disorder with 20 seconds remaining in Gophers’ 28-21 loss to New Mexico State Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium.

Kill was immediately attended to by medical personnel. Dr. Smith said his vital signs were normal as he was cared for on the field. He was then transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further observation.

“Coach Kill has a history of seizures, which has been well controlled through medications,” Dr. Smith said during a postgame news briefing. “There is a history of trouble with dehydration and heat seems to kick that up. It was very hot and humid today.

“We were able to give him medications to sedate him,” Smith continued. “He was breathing, his vital signs were absolutely normal and responded typical of someone responding to a seizure.”

Dr. Smith provided University officials with a further update early in the evening following the game and said that Kill was stable and awake, but medicated. He said that Kill was improving and talking with his wife Rebecca, but would undergo further testing as a precaution.

According to Dr. Smith, Kill is expected to recover fully, but said that it was too early to give a timetable for his return to the team.

To respect Kill’s privacy during his recuperation, the name of the hospital where he is receiving care will not be released.

University officials said that they do not anticipate further information on Coach Kill’s condition being available Saturday night, but are hopefully to be able to provide an update on Sunday.

[SUB][/SUB]Well, thats good news, but the immediate reality is we are now without a coach for awhile. Even if it is just a day ot two that seriously crimps preparation for next week.

The program just cant get a break.

Mike Max just said on Ch. 4 that the staff he spoke to on the team said they fully expect Kill to coach next week against Miami (OH).

Go Gophers!!

Here's the update release sent out this morning:

Kill Continues to Rest, Improve Following Seizure

University of Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill continued to show signs of improvement Sunday morning and is resting comfortably at a local hospital after suffering a seizure late in the Golden Gophers’ home opener at TCF Bank Stadium.

According to Gophers’ team physician Dr. Pat Smith, all tests performed on Coach Kill today have come back absolutely normal and that further testing would continue as necessary.

Smith said that it was too early to discuss further details, including when he expects Coach Kill to be released from the hospital.

Athletics Department officials said that there would be no further updates on Coach Kill’s condition Sunday, but hope to provide more information on Monday.

“Coach Kill is in good hands and is receiving the very best in medical care,” director of athletics Joel Maturi said. “Right now the reports we have received from our medical staff are positive and I am very pleased that he continues to show steady signs of improvement.”

Thoughts and prayers from Southern California for Coach Kill, the Gopher Family and fans.

Ski U Mah! and Fight On! Coach Kill, God's speed.

Glad he's pulling through okay, that was a scary sight. I wouldn't bet against him being on the sidelines by the next game.

Yeah, my money would be on him being there. Limegrover said that he would be back on Weds. I just hope he doesn't rush things, his health does come 1st.

This. It would be nice to beat Miami Ohio next week, but it's a lot more important to have coach Kill healthy and feeling well for the future

Why is it so secretive as to what hospital he's in? Why isn't a lock he's at U of M? I'm thinking he's at HCMC.

I'm very glad to hear the Coach Kill is doing better. I wish him well and hope he is back leading the Gophers to victories soon.

Sincerely,

StPaulCyclone

Why is it so secretive as to what hospital he's in? Why isn't a lock he's at U of M? I'm thinking he's at HCMC.

Probably because he wants a little bit of privacy. I'm sure he loves our fans, but this is a personal matter and he wants to focus on healing rather than having visitors from either fans, or media.

Completely respect those wishes, and would want the same thing if I were him.

Team Physician Provides Update on Gophers’ Head Coach

University of Minnesota football team physician Dr. Pat Smith provided an update on the condition of head coach Jerry Kill during a news briefing at the Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex Monday Afternoon.

Kill suffered a seizure late in the Golden Gophers’ game against New Mexico State at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday and has been recovering at a local hospital since.

“I’m happy to report that Coach Kill is doing very well,” Dr. Smith said. “He’s alert, eating, not on any IVs. He has undergone extensive testing, both labs and procedures, all of which have been totally normal. His vital signs have at no time been altered. That includes on the field and since.”

Dr. Smith added that he expects Kill to make a full recovery and be back on the Gopher sideline “sooner rather than later.” However, a timetable for Kill’s release from the hospital and his return to work has yet to be determined.

“I anticipate and expect (Kill) will have a full recovery, which is uneventful both now and in the future,” Dr. Smith said. “Currently, we’re still waiting on a few studies to make a final determination about what the best, appropriate medical management will be going forward.”

Kill, 50, said that he was grateful for the outpouring of support he has received over the past 48 hours.

“Rebecca and I want to thank everyone for their prayers and concern,” Kill said. “We’ve received great support from friends, fans and colleagues across the state of Minnesota and around the country and I am humbled by all the get-well wishes. I’m feeling better each day and hope to be back with the team soon. Until then, I have full confidence in my coaching staff to prepare our team to play its best this week against Miami.”

Dr. Smith said that he and the other doctors managing Kill’s care are well aware that the Gophers’ head man is eager to get back to work, but want to make sure all proper care has been taken to eliminate or limit the chances of another episode occurring.

“As you’d anticipate Coach Kill’s feeling is that he wants to get back on the field,” Dr. Smith said. “We’ve got a little control of him right now and we’re going to make sure we’ve dotted our I’s and crossed our T’s before (his release) happens. Once he leaves the hospital, we don’t have control of him. So, we’re going to make sure … the medication levels are appropriate, that he’s feeling well enough and then encourage him to get back when he feels well. We have hospitalized him more as a precaution to address those issues that we can address now and not let this occur in the future.”

While Coach Kill is recuperating in the hospital, his coaching staff and team are taking a business-as-usual approach.

The Gophers watched film, went over corrections from Saturday’s game and practiced Sunday afternoon. Today is an off day for the team. The squad will reconvene Tuesday afternoon and continue its preparation for this Saturday’s contest with Miami (Ohio). Kickoff for Saturday’s game is set for 2:37 p.m. at TCF Bank Stadium.
