Johnson Named All-Big Ten First Team
The Big Ten conference announced today that seven University of Minnesota football players were named All-Big Ten on offense.
Receiver Tyler Johnson was named All-Big Ten First Team by the media and second team by the coaches. The junior receiver had a season for the record books as he caught 74 passes (second in B1G) for 1,112 yards (second in B1G) and 10 touchdowns (third in B1G). His 74 catches, 1,112 yards and 10 touchdowns are the second most ever for a Gopher in a single season. He is 10 catches behind Eric Decker's record of 84 set in 2008 and is 14 yards shy of breaking Ron Johnson's single-season yardage record of 1,125 set in 2000. Ron Johnson (2000) and Omar Douglas (1993) each caught 11 touchdowns to share the school record.
Johnson is the first Gopher to be named All-Big Ten First Team on offense since offensive lineman Zac Epping in 2014. He is the first receiver to be recognized with first team honors since Decker in 2009 when the coaches bestowed him with that honor.
Donnell Greene was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention by the coaches and media, while the rest of the starting offensive line Blaise Andries, Daniel Faalele, Conner Olson and Jared Weyler were named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention by the media. Running back Mohamed Ibrahim, who has rushed for 936 and seven touchdowns in nine games, was also named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention by the media.
