Tyler Johnson Day 1-4-20

this is awesome! great find

Very cool. Community seems very important to TJ so honoring him like this is a really nice touch.

Awesome recognition! We badly need this type of role models today keeping kids' dreams alive on what is possible if you study and work hard.

FWIW, in the Strib, your favorite writer, Pat Reusse, has a column about what Tyler Johnson means to North Minneapolis and North High School. Talked to former coaches going back to when Johnson was a freshman in High School. I don't think there is anything in the column that Fleck supporters would find objectionable.

The time for the ceremony today at North is unclear. In Reusse’s article it says at halftime of the basketball game that starts at 7. McKinzie’s post says 2:50

So, OK to click on it?

At North High now. Basketball game starting against a team from Milwaukee at around three. Mayor is here now and visiting with Tyler. Cool scene

Mayor Frey had a good quip about NFL also meaning Northside for Life.
I only stayed for half of the basketball game but the team from Milwaukee (Arts and Science I think) was really good. North was struggling to shoot from outside but had some good interior plays.

Nice to see him getting this well deserved recognition. Thanks for posting.

What was the reason Kill/Claeys didn’t play Tyler Johnson.

I bet none of the local prospects that spurned the U of M and went elsewhere have received this kind of official recognition from the mayors of those cities. A benefit of playing for the home state/city team, and he is deserving of it. ?

Maybe he was a freshman that played QB in high school and was new to the position or something.
I thought Tyler got some run at WR as a true freshman. I remember the game at Nebraska (was there), and Leidner passing to Tyler who made some nice moves on a run after pass to bring the Gophers down to around the ten yard line to potentially score a winning td.

Stop....plz let's not go there...

What if Tyler had this offense with Morgan throwing him the ball for four years? Bateman may very well break this records if he and Morgan have two more healthy seasons.

Yeah I know, my response was to the guy who has insinuated on other threads Tyler had character issues which is why Kill/Claeys didn’t play him like Fleck has.

Sorry was it the idiot Miller that said this, or did Kill Claeys say something to this effect? I mean he was a true freshman learning a new position with a bad position coach and an inconsistent offense.

No, there’s a poster on here who insinuated it on another thread. Spaulding! No!
