Tubby

I love how so many people on here somehow know the team better than Tubby does and know how we should be subbing.

So I guess coaches never make mistakes? This is a message board and we do know better...after the fact.:)

Underground- here's the way it works. Most of us here are passionate fans that enjoy discussing Gopher buckets. I know a lot of Gopher fans but most are to the level of: "great they won or too bad they lost". Those who bleed maroon and gold buckets need an outlet for all the other thoughts that ramble through one's mind about players, coaches, strategies or the woulda, coulda shouldas. So after or during a loss, I think it's appropriate that passionate fans vent their spleens a little while avoiding personal attacks on the players or coaches. For example I think it's okay to sometimes say: Nolan had a bad game- versus Nolan sucks and he should be in division 2 or some nasty thing like that. I don't think anybody on here that criticizes Tubby for a game decision thinks they know more than Tubby or that they wish we had a different coach. It's just people comparing thoughts with other people. That's it.

FOT informs me that the Tubster has won about 441 games in 18 seasons so - case closed - he's the best coach on the GH- as far as I know. Bobby Knight - are you on here?

A bad run to the basket by Al toward the end of the game

I'm 99.9 percent certain if you watch a replay of that you'll see Tubby motion to Al to take it to the basket. Why I don't really know but the replay should show Al glancing over at Tubby and Tubby with one hand kind of up and the other with a pointed finger towards the basket indicating Al should drive.

Bad refs is no excuse not to work the refs. In fact, it is more reason to work them IMO.

I agree with you but I have a feeling that Tubby wanted a better run to the basket than that. If we had Royce or Trevor in that game, Al would have had a much easier run to the basket than that.

I suggest to you to look for the tapes of the games that Wayne Turner played at Uk about 12-13 years ago. The guy could not shoot but could get to the basket like nobody I have seen in my life. He was directed by the same coach.

Be patient guys. After watching Kansas game against TN and some other games from top teams, I cannot help it not to feel sorry for us for not having those two top players that we hoped to have last Summer. The season is not over yet. We may do really well this year too.

Yeah, considering Al ran into about 700 lbs of (3) players that each had a good 6/8/10 inches on him I do too. I don't know if Tubby wanted him to draw a foul or what. I was a bit surprised at the play.

I agree with both of you guys. I have no problem with people voicing their opinions, and of course coaches make mistakes. I know there are reasons to complain about certain aspects of Tubby's coaching. My problem is that it just getting so old here with people questioning substitutions. Tubby obviously has good reasons for the way he substitutes, and with closer games in the BT, he's played the starters way more minutes. I know everyone here is passionate about the gophers but it's just getting out of control the number of people saying this is what Tubby needs to do. Tubby knows the team better than anyone and he knows basketball more than anyone here. That doesn't mean he shouldn't be open to criticism, but it just gets sickening at times on here.

Why are we not allowed to ask questions about some of Tubby's decisions? I would never presume to think I'm smarter than Tubby, but I would also never be delusional enough to think he can't make mistakes.

Not sure that Tubby wanted him to shoot on that drive. Perhaps a kick out pass to Hoff behind him once he got into that traffic would have left Hoff open for a 3. I think Al had a very good game and he shot the ball well IIRC. I would just like to see him think pass 'first' when he goes to the basket. When LW goes to the basket I'm ok with him thinking shoot 'first'. He had a few unbelievable shots he made that did not count cuz of a timeout or a foul away from the ball prior to his shot.

AL - Pass first, shoot later
LW - Shoot first, pass later

No doubt. Few GH-ers have 441 W in 18+ yrs as Div I HC.

He makes lots of mistakes. So do Roy Williams, Bill Self, Tom Izzo, Coach K, et al.

I wonder if their boards have a Friend of Roy, Friend of Bill, etc. whose sole mission is to shoot down any criticism of their man by spouting obscure facts, supposed inside information and claiming a "friendship" of sorts.

Maybe it's a concept than can be franchised.
