Tubby: This is probably the worse defensive team we've had since I've been here

Here are a few notes I caught from Tubby's post game interview on 1500:

• There was just a very poor effort on our part defensively on our part in the 1st half. When they're throwing the ball inside and passing it where ever they want. When their freshman goes 6-6 against our seniors, we don't have much of a chance. We need to be more aggressive, be tougher. We couldn't stop them off the dribble, they penetrated when they wanted to. A loss at Nebraska took something out of us, but to come in here today, knowing what the consequences were, being 8-10, their senior day, doing whatever it takes to win…
• 42-28 in the paint, are you kidding me? This has to be a joke.
• Purdue has been playing better the last couple of games, ever since the IU blowout. They were playing pretty good.
• It's not going to be easy as far as getting them back into the swing. We knew these were going to be two tough games on the road, both teams are playing extremely well, at the right times. We corrected a few things, Andre and Austin and Joe show the ball well in the 2nd half. We have to do the things we have to do. We've defended well over the years, but this is probably the worse defensive team we've had since I've been here.

What do you know?? Throwing his players under the bus and taking no responsibility for himself in the matter. Please resign Tubby so we can stop talking about you.

Wow, not what you expect out of a coach who wants to be here. This response to the effort today is simply unacceptable. You can't rip into your team when they aren't mentally strong.

I don't have any problem with the coach calling out the team as a whole. It's when he calls out individual players that bothers me. Improvement I guess.

But saying this is his worst defensive team is a straight-up lie.

Fire the bum.

And I thought I remember articles from earlier this year on how good we were defensively especially Austin Hollins.

He should go. After the IU upset, no joy or even a smile. Watching the press conf at BWW with no sound you would have assumed he had lost.

Is there any quote by Smith saying that this is his worst job coaching a team ever too?

Smith: "When they're throwing the ball inside and passing it wherever they want." Teams can do that when they play as teams.

This team has quit on Tubby - the reason they beat Indiana is because they met without Tubby and psyched themselves up for it. Unfortunately, with watching how this team has unraveled at the end of the past few seasons under Coach's poor leadership, i feel like quitting on them too - at least for remainder of the season. i still want the best for them, they're my team, but at this point winning might be losing. apples and oranges, but the thought of obtaining just one more victory this year and possibly keeping Tubby because of it, gives me a sick feeling in my stomach eerily reminiscent of the Vikings beating the Redskins and missing out on that 2nd draft pick. i've never been a Tubby basher, but if winning one Big Ten Tourney game or backing into the NCAAs and getting blown out right away is somehow just enough for him to keep his job, i can't be excited about our future. i don't want to be depressed watching a team that is consistently apathetic and error prone. i'd rather have a resilient and scrappy team that gives me an exhausting effort night in and night out, regardless of the score, even if it meant a few less wins.

I've got no problem with anything Tubby said. The problem I have is with his inability to do anything about anything.

He would be the first to tell you how much better this group of players is capable of performing and how much better their conference record should have been. He would give the Tubby stare to some of the clown posters on here that claim we've got an inferior roster and shouldn't have expected much better than this.

This team has quit on Tubby -

Exactly what we said the last couple of games. I have a feeling Tubby likes to beat down his players mentally. For whatever reason. Maybe he doesn't think it should effect them, but something that happens in the gym during practice does not translate to game time. We will not get ANY of the Big 3 with Tubby here and I'm afraid, that he could actually lose some of the current players (Dre? Coleman?)...they're having zero fun. Contrast watching these guys and Wisconsin play...less athletic, but the Grinch nows how to squeeze everything out of what he has and the players look like they enjoy it...This team will never be a B1G contender with Tubby at the helm.

This is also the most offensive team that I have observed since Monson's last year!

This means absolutely nothing. After the WI post game celebration, he was trying to not get the team too excited after a big win, because we saw what happened after that.

I agree, among Tubby's many transgressions, remaining calm after a big win when the team collapsed the last time he got excited after a big win is not one of them.
