Troublesome Myron Tweet - Bostick and White suspended

"It could be 20," Smith said. "It depends on what I want and what I decide. If they take care of the things they have to take care of, then it could be less." from the PP. Sounds like personal issues, probably school?

Based on what Tubby said, his point seems to be about letting them and the team know what to expect on some rather "common" team rule violations. But, it is just a wild guess at this point anyway.

Rumor is that it involves something more then academics. Anyone doing any investigating at the Trib or the PP?

You mean rumors as in the dbags over at the Scout Wisconsin Board saying he got arrested, and somehow they all know about it, but none of us have heard a thing about it? Yeah sounds like a legit rumor

Our playing time issues are rapidly sorting themselves out.

Not Good, I was really looking forward to watching Royce play. I wonder what they did and how long they will be out. Not a good sign when your prized freshman, with question marks surrounding his character, is suspended before his first game.

Exactly. When coaches and ADs talk about players who were arrested they catch phrases are, "We have to let the legal process play out" or "We're still gathering the facts." This sounds like Tubby is doing the policing himself and no other entities are involved.

Ugh. What a great start to a promising season. Hopefully it starts terrible and ends on a high note.

Calling BostickBrother!

Please, if you are out there, shed some light here.

Just saw this on ESPN's front-page, too. Lets hope they get this straightened out and Tubby lets them rejoin quickly.

I love how the Wisconsin boards seem so sure it's a legal issue and that it's been kept a 'secret' for the last month. Whatever. I don't think much of Myron but I'm pretty sure either he or Fuller would know better then some Wisconsin people filled with wishful thoughts.

I heard from a guy that told me a friend told him that a reliable source said something about it, but is not sharing the story. Sounds like a lot to think about.

another cryptic quote from Tubby:

"These are things that are going back over a matter of time. When you do something wrong and our guys know, that playing time or an opportunity to play, that is just a priviliege here and a priviliege to be part of this program and we expect them to conduct themselves in the proper way and if they don't that they forced our hand and forced us to do something that we really don't want to have to do." ."

Our very own resident Wisconsin DBag is chomping at the bit to get the news.

I am shocked that if there is other news related to this that it has not come out in the paper.

If someone wants to PM me, I will email the Strib and let them know what is up.

And to think I was going to pay the 2.99 to stream the first exhibition game on Thursday!

Both the football and basketball boards have been depressing to read these last two days...:(

I have gotten an impression that this is not a serious issue. If it were, it would not be up to Tubby to decide the length of suspension. Tubby is a savvy manager who knows what to say to the media and how to maintain public relations. So, I will take his quote at face value that 1) the matter warrants suspension and 2) it is something he can rule upon. In other words, they could be rather common team rule violations, and he needs to make sure every player undertands not to repeat them.

Because of Mbakwe and his felony charge, I am sure there will be concerns from various directions over how the team is run as well as some moral issues. Maybe, the rather stern tone (e.g. possible 20 games) is a demonstration of our commitment to running the program in a right way (even if the matter is not so serious in nature).

We'll see...

Now, I love how Tubby doesn't mess around. He keeps his players in line or they are in the dog house. Very unfortunate. I was very excited to see Royce and his abilities but I always had a bad feeling in my gut he may be one to get in trouble. Trouble has always followed him in some form or another so this really isn't totally unexpected. Like others have said, playing time won't be an issue anymore.

Also, Blizzard raises a good point. Royce's lack of discretion will now cost the university more than Bad publicity.

Bad, bad, "ju-ju" Mon. Isn't White the player who had rumors of problems in High School? Is Tubby taking too many risky players? This is just a terrible downer to start the season.

He was kicked out of Delasalle. So yes he has had problems.

GoFerit- I think and hope you are right. I recall Clem doing this at the start of a lot of seasons. Guys would get the one and two game suspensions early as a message to themselves and the squad that this would be all business. Set the tone now before it hurts you later.

Hopefully Tubby laying down the law early for Royce will make him behave for the rest of his time as a gopher. Missing a few early games including exhibition games as a freshmen is much better than him getting into trouble over winter break and missing big ten games

I also have to think this is not a major legal or academic violation (yet). If they were in significant legal trouble (like Trevor) or at risk of being academically ineligible, it would no longer be in Tubby's hands.

according to a representative living in the dorms, Royce recently got moved from his previous residence to a single room in a quieter dorm. Maybe to stop the partying and focus more on school and bball?

Patrick will be all over this

No doubt Patrick is going to chime in on this shortly. Nice going guys (including Carter on the football team). All Royce & Devron & Carter are doing is giving columnists like Patrick the necessary fodder they need to write a scathing column.

I trust Tubby is handling this the right way, as Maturi did with Mbakwe. It's pretty simple, really. .. play the guys who really want to be members of the basketball team, and won't embarrass the university (or themselves). For now that doesn't include Royce and Devron. This stuff gets old fast.

After watching the press conference it looks to me like Tubby is just laying down the law. Good for him. I want to see Royce play as much as anyone does. This kid needs to realize he's not in HS anymore and he will answer to someone for his (mis)behavior. If Coach needs to sit him or suspend him until he gets it - so be it.

Is he still living in the second dorm he was moved to? There's more than academics involved regarding both suspensions.
