Semantics. He's announcing his decision to enter the portal in May.
How hard is it to type “will be entering the portal in the May window”???

on3 guy probably doesn’t even know the portal has windows now.

It’ll Fort Knox getting info out.

Fleck will do his sore loser thing where he says “I don’t talk about players who leave”.

Best indicator we’ll get is:
- if he puts out a Twitter announcement thanking coaches, teammates, etc. then I’ll guess he’s in a good state of mind about the change, and probably means we just got tampered with and he’s getting paid
- if there is no Twitter announcement, then I’ll guess something went down similar to how the other two DL left the team right before the Wisconsin game (names escaping me at the moment)

Dude you gotta let go of this whole official window stuff. It might not be official but if a player puts it out there that he is transferring it may as well be.

Eventually they may find a way to truly regulate transferring the way they do recruiting but right now it is still the wild west.

The player didn’t put it out there.

If true, this sucks, but we need to step away from the ledge a bit. Things will work themselves out. Give some time for context.

“relax…” == “This is not a big loss, Trill was not going to play a significant roll on the defense this fall”

??????

My point is that obviously a guy on the team understands the context of what happened here better than us.

A. Trill would have played a significant role, sure. But it also sounds like he has been talking about hitting the portal every year since 2020 and it finally happened. Fleck has high standards for the program and the student-athletes in it. It's quite possible that Trill decided he was over meeting those standards. PJ's comments in the presser that we thought were just about Dylan Wright likely applied to this situation as well.

B. We have two very highly-regarded 3rd year guys in Eastern and Schuster who can play his position and now have a direct path to a starting role. The cupboard is by no means bare.

C. I'll wait to hear reports from spring practice and see what we do in the May portal period before losing my mind about a guy who underproduced last season.

"Sore loser"???

He is doing the classy and professional thing. You think he is going to throw a former player under the bus in a press conference and say "Yeah, so and so was ditching class too much" or "He got into a fight at practice"? There is zero to be gained - outside of for the curious fans like us - for Fleck to give explanations on why guys leave.

Have you ever noticed how most corporations will now only verify employments dates and titles after someone leaves a company? It's not a common practice anymore to give negative recommendations or information. Too much liability. PJ knows exactly what he is doing and it's smart.

It's true, he is listed on On3 and deleted from Gopher roster. Now he could come back if coaches allow and I'm sure the story will start to leak.

There is no way to spin this as a positive......
You don't know that; we don't know that. I suspect this could be a wash. We'll miss Trill, who was a presence, but there might well be better options bubbling up from the depth chart. Every year is different. Moreover, if we want to get some pass rushing pressure up the middle (essentially AWOL last year), maybe some personnel modifications have to be made in the middle. I'll trust a person with inside knowledge: BSF. Relax.

Look Trill is a loss, no one is spinning it. But he never became the star we had hoped for, let’s be real. Baugh, Jefferies, Eastern, Schuster, McCoy, and Richter are still a solid three deep rotation. Haven’t had solid depth like that in a long time.

Don't be shocked if he ends up back at a Georgia school or within driving distance of home. I used to be a writer in the area of the two high schools that Trill attended and know the town he is from (Cordele). It is not a wealthy area by any means. I don't think his mother has ever been able to see him play a college game, so I'm sure that weighs on a young man.

The Trill is gone….
For the amount of snaps he played the past two years the above are super unproductive stats. If he had that production for one year at the 1 technique it would be acceptable — but still not great. Next man up, although I don’t think Eastern will be the guy he doesn’t seem to have it but there are 4-5 other options.

Look on the bright side. There are up-and-comers that are hungry.

I'm sure talking bad publicly about a player that leaves would go over well with other players and recruits.

well, that makes 9 defensive players who have left or will be leaving by transfer.

granted, each person certainly has their own individual reasons for leaving. but when a majority of the transfers are on one side of the line, it's at least worth mentioning.

I think it’s a function of talent we have a lot of young players who will be good. Dixon is a big loss — even with the talent behind him. He is a baller the rest not so much.

Meh, last year we had 12 offensive players leave and like 5 defensive players.

What don’t you like about Eastern? I think he’ll start.
