Transfer portal

There seems to be a lot of people that think Lindsey will be really good. And maybe he will, but I haven’t seen him play very much so I am not sure how people know that. Have others seen a lot of Lindsey in practice or spring games?

Got it. Bench all of our seniors, start all of our freshmen so they can develop. Then the year after, bench all of the freshmen that played the year before for new freshmen coming in. Sounds like a recipe for
I don't think you get it at all.

I don't think you get it at all.
I guess I don't, and multiple others included. The idea that Lindsey could sit for another year and be more ready to start as a sophomore than he is as a freshman is asinine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Am I the only who thinks PJ should stay away from a QB in the transfer portal and go with what he has on the roster. I know the current current QB roster is inexperienced but there seems to be some potential in Drake Lindsey and this Jackson Kollock kid they just signed.
No one knows if they’re any good. I’d go after one for sure.

What's asinine is how so many people don't understand the current state of college football or the game of football in general.

The current state of college football is that the transfer portal is a necessity for improving your team. You seem to be advocating to not use it. Most teams will. That's the reality. Especially at the QB position.

Well, you are batting 1000. Everyone disagrees with you.
1. You say don't gift wrap the job for Lindsey.
2. Don't bring in a QB to compete.
1 and 2 are mutually exclusive.
How about Lindsey competes with the current QBs on the roster, imagine that!

Ok, he competes with a true freshman, a walk-on (Max) and Wittke, who has never started. I'm underwhelmed.
Just to lay cards on the table, I really hope Lindsey is the 2nd coming of Tom Brady. But, to just give him the job and hope 1 of the other untested QB's will do a good job if Lindsey gets injured is malpractice as a head coach.

Yes. You’re crazy. That isn’t how Big Ten football works in 2024. At all. No one is giving a Big Ten starting QB role to an underclassman. No one.

They will get someone in the portal that has 15+ starts and crazy stats for a G5 or FBS program and he will use it as his opportunity to be seen on a bigger stage and improve his chance at getting a look from the NFL.

What would make you think that? We’ve seen nothing. AK had a way bigger sample size before he was named the starter
I will be the first to admit I was hopeful and even thought that AK was going to be a stud and we all know how that turned out. Lindsey or Kollack could turn out the same way but the only way we find out is play them.

Well you thought AK was going to be a stud, what makes you think either of these two would be better?

I know you know this, but they've seen Lindsey every day in practice for almost a year.

Why when you can get someone that has actually taken a snap to compete?
Because i don't think the Gophers have the NIL funds or appeal to bring in a talent that's much better than what they have on the current roster.

Your absolutely right and let's be honest they're going to bring in a QB from some mid major college or another FCS school who has more starts than any of the current kids on the roster and then want? 7-5, 8-4???

If you could add a Brosmer equivalent would you do it?

I get where you are coming from but after 2023 I don't think Fleck is likely to role the dice on a young inexperienced QB when there are so many experienced guys in the portal.

With the way QBs move around right now it is debatable how much value there is in recruiting a QB and developing him but you still have to do it if for no other reason then to make sure you have backups ready to play in case of injuries.

Bottom line is if they bring in a transfer QB it doesn't mean Drake won't have a shot to win the job. QB position is too important to leave to chance when there are so many QBs available in the portal.

Competition makes everyone better. Bring in the best QB that’ll come and let the best qb win.

Dylan Raiola says "hey."
I don't often agree with your takes but this is 100% spot on...we brought two highly rated qb recruits in the last two years and one can't possibly start. Need to replace receiving core and get better at run blocking on the o line before we care about an experienced qb.
