Transfer Portal 2026

He's a good writer but all the portal potentials he's wrote about so far have been more wishful thinking. That said, I don't want him showing our coaching staff's hand either if he did know who they were talking to. But I don't think he does.
He simply regurgitates things he pays for or sees on social media. I do the same, but don't get paid for it.

To me, this is a good example of how player from a mid-major school can successfully transfer their skills to the Big 10 or another big conference. I remember how angry she looked when playing the Gophers last year. Ha.

Glenn was a starter for and a valuable contributor to a Big 12 team that earned a spot in the Sweet Sixteen the year before she came here. For us she was one of those valuable players whose contributions don't always show up on the stat sheet each night. Great defense, speed and a confidence I think the rest of the team absorbed.

Think you're mixed up on the Brylee Glenn timeline. Glenn last started/played for KSU in the 2023-24 season, when KSU lost at home in the tourney and did not make it to the Sweet 16. The next year, 2024-25, Glenn chose to redshirt at KSU because she had lost her starting spot and was going to play less. That year, when Glenn sat out, KSU made the Sweet 16. She then transferred to the Gophers.

Ah, misread the stat sheet. Regardless, great pickup

I think Merkle could have a great year in our system. Every player has strengths / weaknesses, and our system is ideal to showcase her strengths and minimize weaknesses compared to Washington and Oregon. Oregon seems like the oddest fit.

She could clean up on the O boards / putbacks, and would draw a lot of attention to free up our shooters.

Plus… With Washington and Oregon nearly every away game is a cross country flight with a 6’5” body in an airplane seat. MN travel will be much more comfortable. 😅

This would be an impressive addition. I hope the program can get this done!

Agree. Oregon does have that Nike money though.
I do think she would work really well in our system.

Pony up for Tilda Trygger and we can put this all talk to rest...

Would like to see Merkle sign with the Gophers, she does get rebounds. This team is so close to competing for a hosting site next season and hope they go all in. Don’t get me wrong, love that they kept most of the team together just nice to have more reinforcements. Can’t wait to see how Zoey and McKenna C develop over the off season. Very tough to compete for transfers with the deep pockets of Oregon and Washington

Trygger would be much better than Merkle. That is the dream center for the Gophers in the portal.

I'll be a fan of any Center or veteran guard we sign. Sophie Hart really improved her play, and strength while transferring from NC State to MN. We have a fairly full roster but a couple additions like Tonga and Glenn last year would not hurt.

Maryland the favorite to land Agara. B10 going to be a gauntlet again
Maryland is going to be scary good. Could be a top 5-8 team in the country. One thing about Brenda she can recruit. Guessing she has nice money to play with but was/is always able to land the top kids. I know we were never going to land Agara; but, I also wish I knew why we can't land some of these kids. Is it all about money.
Do they have a hard time seeing the vision? If Gophers would have gotten Agara and McGill you can't tell me they were not a elite 8 contender.

Part of me worries that our transfer gimmick from the last three years of finding overlooked talent from Minnesota is just not that appealing to a ton of players that either aren't from Minnesota in the first place or that are from Minnesota but could make more money elsewhere.

I hope I'm wrong, but it'll be interesting to see what success we might have in the portal this year and beyond. So far, our two best portal gets over the last three seasons were by far Hart (who was actually signed by Whalen's staff before they left) and Tonga (who wasn't from Minnesota).

Rob Kane saying he's hearing NuNu Agara has found her school but not Gophers.

Big 10 just keeps getting tougher...Courtney Ogden to Michigan. Dang.

"Do they have a hard time seeing the vision?"

For some young people I've known, my own kids included, long term planning is >4 hours. They are near sighted.

Also the proverb "make hay while the sun shines" applies.

As of this morning the On3 portal tracker listed 1,456 portal entrants with 221 having picked their new school. It seems it’s still quite early in the process, which as a fan was good for me to see bc reading these posts can be anxiety-inducing. 😂 Would love a Merkle commitment soon. There’s a lot of talent available for our coaches to recruit for our few open spots.
