Coach Carly is a good coach... her track shows that. Their tournament seeding has improved from 13, 12, and 11 over the last few years. The first two years they lost by 30 to 40 points. This year they lost to ND by 19 and ND went on to defeat Vandy.
With McCarthy on the team perhaps a 9 or 10 seed next year and a 1st round win.

This could be a win/win. With a good (note I did not say great) portal post player for us... Fairfield and Gophers win.

I wasn’t all that impressed with Deal this season, and that’s before I found out she was 20 years old as a frosh. She can develop to be a solid player I’m sure, but I don’t think it will line up with her recruiting ranking ever.

If Carter McCray wanted to return to the Big Ten, she would be a great addition for the Gophers.

I don't know why you're so pessimistic. They made it to the Sweet 16 and finished fourth in the Big Ten this year, and most of the key players who did that are coming back. Sure, there's a Sophie Hart sized hole to fill, but I think Dawn has shown she knows what she's doing. The default mode shouldn't be "we're going to crash and burn unless everything goes perfectly."
 




Yes, we'd all like to hear some news. But, I have faith in Dawn and her staff - we can be sure they are working hard behind the scenes. Until someone donates $10 million to Dinkytown Athletes, we won't have the NIL pot some other schools have. But, we have a great program, a great staff and a great environment. I want the players who want that and want to come here and are not just after NIL money.
 


Very true. I do not fully understand the portal process. We do however need to replace two important pieces. My hope is that Dawn and her staff can do that because this past season was so enjoyable and I would love to see that continue.
 

I think the Gophers are in a great spot. In many ways their amazing season places them in the hard middle. Despite their recent success, recruiting against the "eites" is still a battle. At the same time, their ability to retain a solid core group of players only leaves them with a few, though be they key, spots to fill. So there's not the desperation some other teams have to immediately land additional players. And as others have noted, there are still many, many great players available. I 'm excited to see what Dawn and team come up with.
 

I can tell slight panic and negativity is starting to creep into this board. Everyone just needs to take a deep breath because it’s all going to work out.

I’m a sicko and read last years transfer and roster threads because it’s been about a year since I joined this board and was curious how last year around this time went.

My big take aways were every transfer we got (Glenn/Tonga/Bershers) came out of nowhere, not mentioned once on here and all of a sudden they were gophers. So we have no idea the caliber or how close players are to committing.

Some of the comments from that thread “Hart needs to come off the bench”, “Tonga: another practice player”, “gophers are projected to take 13th in the B10 you having them at 4th, I think you are overrating them a bit”. There was disappointed we missed out on a Mississippi St big that ended up averaging 1 and 1 at Nevada

I got huge into girls basketball a couple years ago because one of my family members was playing against all of the top girls in the state for multiple years, and I have other connections with coaches in the state because some of my really good friends are Head coaches on good programs in the state.

The one thing I trust is Dawn talent evaluation, she turned Tori and Grace, 2 borderline top 100 recruits into all conference players, she recruited Hart hard to transfer WV, she got undervalued/unknown players in Tonga and Stewart to play big roles on solid teams. Got Glenn a 3 year starter to come off the bench.

Whatever Dawn is doing now I think she has earned our trust that it is going to work out.

So true, just ask Chat GPT what PGs and post players remain that would fit well with the Gophers given their current roster and you get a huge list of starters, solid bench players that could become starters, and many with potential to do more rom the big schools and mid-majors. Players many of us haven't heard of or considered but that could be a great addition. Its exciting, really.

There's also the potential of a 5th year being added that might allow players to return. Things are a bit slow.
 




It is kind of crazy I make my big post to not panic and last year the gophers transfers came out of nowhere
